Hi all!

Does anybody have idea how "Revolution year" is simulated? I mean it must be very hard to trigger so many revolts, coups, gold strike ect.

And is there any elections? I can't remember was there any real democratic nations (like France) in the 19th century. This may sound like a stupid question, but I have nothing else to ask...

I have waited this kinda game for years so keep going, Paradox!
:D

btw! Any more screenies from Victoria???

No. Sardinia was semi-democratic. The rest were about as autocratic as you could get....

France varies radically during this period from a constitutional monarchy with a severely restricted suffrage to a republic with universal suffrage to an Empire with universal suffrage and then back to a republic. The Netherlands and Belgium both more or less fully democratised during this period. Italy when it was first created had a very restricted suffrage, but gradually expanded it throughout the rest of the era. Spain had a brief republic. Parliamentary politics mattered in both Austria and Hungary after 1867. And, of course, in the last few years of the game several new democratic states were established.

One of the nice things would be if there were events that simulated the massive influx of immigrants to the US throughout much of this time period, especially from Germany in the 1840-1850 period.

The more I think about this game, the more sorry I feel for Paradox in trying to please at least most of us, each of us who has their own ideas about what MUST be in the game.

Good Luck Paradox.

Good Luck Paradox.

Maybe a population boost and increase tax income or innovativeness for the govt assuming that that is what the slider is called.

Yeah Paradox has it rough ;).

I would say the US and Switzerland was really democratic. Then follows the UK and finally Denmark and Sweden.
In political science class they told us that Sweden was the last country in the nordic region to go fully democratic, depending on how you interpet Finlands history (being under Russian controll until after WWI). We became democratic in 1917 if I remember correctly (the books are still at my parents place).

Pretty much no state had universal suffrage during this time period though, at least up unti the end. If it wasn't the slaves it was the women, or the poor, who were denied the vote.

I generally trust Paradox on this. There were things I'd like to have seen in EU2 and HOI but without them they're still great games though EU2 is a bit higher on the jaron-o-meter. :)

as for Victoria, I think its important they stick to their vision for the game and not let themselves be bogged down with adding little things to make everyone happy.

Too many cooks spoil the stew!

or something like that. :)

I thought women didn't get to vote until 1924 or something like that... Or am I wrong? (why is 1924 sticking in my head?)

The issue with Sweden is that the change was so gradual, it evolved from a very centralized monarchy at the beginning of the 19th century to a full democracy in the 20's, without any revolution or coup, and with very gradual changes.

Sweden had an estate system from the mediveal period up to 1866 (burghers, peasants, nobles and clergy), but had to make some concessions in 1848. In most countries, 1848 provided some liberalization, but there was a conservative backslash later (Prussia, France etc.)

Now there's an ahistorical choice that'll screw the player of another European Power if the computer happens to pick that. Surely however this would have kicked off a war with Austria immediatly.

And Russia. Before the Crimean War Nicolas I served as the Gendarme of Europe, maintaining the order of "Vienna", fighting against socialsm, liberalism and nationalism.
