So
@Cliges on a scale from 0/10 how francophile/pretentious is the following: I just watched Deadline, which is a really serious news/analysis programme, and they talked about the French election and among other things showed part of todays debate. Only problem was that they didn't have the debate subtitled so they were airing French debate in French with no subtitles and when after the clip an expert on French politics was asked to give a rough idea about what was said he just kept laughing at what was said and couldn't stop laughing. Took quite a time before he finished laughing and was able to explain.
And then they proceeded to spend the last 66% of the programme discussing how on Saturday the 8th rerun of MATADOR will start and whether MATADOR still is relevant here 39 years after it aired the first time. They sure have their priorities straight.
Anyway a good point was made that Lise Nørgaard and Erik Balling actually predicted the development of fake news.
Also I think it's unfair to criticise the series for having Arnesen smash a record in rage when his wife won't stop playing it when he yells "stop playing that n word music!". Arnesen is supposed to be an unsympathic caveman, so what can you expect from him.
Also hadn't thought about it before, how Mr. Varnæs is an example of a man having all the liberal/egalitarian virtues with how despite being bank CEO and one of the richest in town, he treats everybody, high as low, equally and greets everybody he meets on the street no matter who they are. (Though he has flaws himself with how he has an affair with his assistant.)
(Also it was mentioned by the host that MATADOR once got 3.6 million viewers for a single episode, but as one of the guests rightly pointed out then that was during the monopoly and hence there wasn't anything else to view on TV (and the internet wasn't a thing yet). By the way that view count means that around 75% of the total population was watching that episode!)
@Rendap will you be watching? Also how many times have you seen the series? Our PM apparently has bragged about having viewed it over 20 times. I'm not that accomplished, but I think I've seen it something like 7 times.
Also what do you think about the restoration? Frankly I'm very skeptical about how good it will be, though I'll refrain from giving a verdict until Saturday. Especially the decision to change the format from 4:3 to 16:9, thereby cutting footage, is something I find rather sketchy.
With regard to whether it's still relevant then as was pointed out things like the gay debate is still a thing---especially in Worldwide. And liberal/egalitarian virtues too are still important.
