Good point that it is part of our culture. Culturally we are a Christian country after all. And of bank holidays I only think that Constitution Day (June 6th) isn't religiously founded. (Although I'm not sure whether New Years day is religiously founded; I think it is though.) Of the top of my head there's: New Years Day, Thursday before Easter (the day before Good Friday; no idea what it's English name is), Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Second Easter Day, the Great Prayer Day (4th Friday after Easter; you eat special buns the night before), Ascension Day (the day Christ went to heaven), Pentecost Sunday, Second Pentecost Day (think it's called Whit Monday or something like that in English), Constitution Day, Christmas Day, Second Christmas Day. I might have missed one or two, but that's about what we have. As you can see our holidays are firmly rooted in Christianity. And there's many traditions connected with the various dates. For instance Pentecost Saturday (the day before Pentecost Sunday) is a very popular day to get married. Many families have reunions around Easter and special ales are released for Easter. And other things.
Strange. I thought those evangelicals were super religious. And how can somebody not know about things like advent and pentecost? Those are really well known dates after all. *mind blown*
Also to see whether I remember correctly from Christianity class (yes, that's a thing) in primary education and religion in high school then wasn't pentecost when the disciples of Christ got together and laid the groundwork for Christianity and essentially split from Judaism?
(And Christianity class is a politically hot potato. It forbids the teaching of any religion, but the state religion until confirmation and the far left wing really wants to change that. The far right is really against that change and most people don't care. It came to be in the early 1970s when it replaced the old religious classes which were actively missioning for Christianity. In religion in high school you have to spend considerable time on Christianity. And then you must take at least two other major religions. We did Islam and Judaism. And then we had more time and did Buddhism too. Ethics also has to be part of religion in high school.)
You're great too.
