Quite a lot of school administrators should burn in hell. They have no teaching experience themselves and see their job as a way of either propagating their viewpoint no matter the facts or conducting social experiments. Teaching and children come as an afterthought for them (if any thought for those is spared).

...come to think of, I guess quite few players here would fit the job perfectly. And speaking of which, good luck for madchemist in his new endeavour. I hope we don't have to wait too long until syncretism between werewolfism and Catholic faith is achieved?

Also, I'm a bit concerned that Loup is put on same level as Spartan. I'd put Loup on the level of that Saudi (whatshisface?) guy. [insert smiley if needed]

I didn't ask you what your favourite subfield of the field algebra is, I asked you about your favourite algebra.

I'm afraid I have no idea what you mean.

Where's the History?

This is the Paradox forums.

Where's the art?

Other than music, an external elective.

Where's the engineering?

At high school?

To compound that, what level of teaching are we talking about here?

See above.

Want another example? What about Biology? Do we have any Genetics, Biomed, or Health related classes?

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about real subjects :ninja:

Granted, k-59 should be able to cover economics, but you left that one out as well.

Oh yes, can't forget him.

To be fair though, a biased @spartanlemur course would be more informative than the kind of homeschooling/creationist stuff which is taught in the US. I may despise many of his views, but he never claimed to have an universal truth.

How do you want to teach math if you don't even know what an algebra is?

I never really liked that part of analysis, for some reason. Not totally sure why.

I'm going to assume that you have basically no idea what you're talking about when it comes to either homeschooling in particular, or education in the USA in general.

I assume you're one of those people who believes that fundamentalist Protestants control the US education system and forbid any teaching of biology because of evolution, and that you also believe that homeschooling is nothing more than an attempt by certain ignorant parents to avoid having their children taught about certain subjects, and that homeschooled children suffer greatly in terms of educational outcomes relative to their peers.

I'll grant that since I'm from the Northeast of the US, I don't have experience of other states, but I really haven't ever heard of creationism being taught in any US high schools. As for homeschooling, homeschooled students are statistically well above their peers in standardized test scores. I also have some personal evidence of it being a very effective method of producing good educational outcomes, since I was homeschooled for 7 years of my life and performed exceedingly well academically, so it's a bit of a sore spot with me when someone bashes homeschooling without any firsthand knowledge of it.

I don't believe that they control the entire school system. My beliefs are that they run certain schools and pretend that creationism is a serious alternative to the evolution. As for homeschooling, that is one of my concerns, but not only. I think that it is in general good for children to be a part of the school, as a way to get familiar with society. Stats in Sweden indicate that those who do not attend preschool have a tougher time.

I have heard of instances where it is compared to the evolution as an equivalent or in which it is taught in a homeschooling context. Then I understand your concerns of those who bash upon homeschooling given your positive experience (which is great to hear), but that is also, to me, an indication of the problem. Some may end up having a very good time, while others will not. That is why public education is good, as it allows in theory to help everyone professionally. I will admit that I do not however have any firsthand experience.

That doesn't actually happen, and if it does it happen it happens in less than 1% of the school in America. That is a straight up myth with no actual evidence that backs it up.

You have the same problem in public schooling. Some people do very well and have very positive experiences in public schooling, and others (my sister comes to mind) really struggle and detest how their public schooling went. As long as the parents are competent home schooling can be just as good for a child as public education.

It's my understanding that Creationism is confirmed culturally, not through education. No public school can legally teach creationism.

Let me ask, how does homeschooling work? Is it somewhat like a seminar style course for one?

It varied a lot for us depending on what the subject area was. For some subjects, (e.g. handwriting, spelling/vocabulary) we just completed assigned lessons from a book. Others (math, science, English grammar) were covered with a sit-down introduction to any new topics, followed by assigned problems or exercises from our textbooks to make sure we understood what we had just covered. History and religion consisted of longer sit-down sessions with a lot more discussion and conversation, sometimes even lasting over an hour at a time. We also did a lot of other reading on the side.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if k-59's experience was a lot different. Homeschooling can be done differently depending on who does the teaching, or on the learning style of the students too.

  • Europa Universalis III Complete
  • Europa Universalis IV

Hmm, I'm intrigued.
