For some reason they weren't part of the program. And I wasn't too keen on trying anything that would result in me being sent to one.

[rant]Boy do I hate mainstream movies. A couple days ago i ventured away from the élite culture channel I usually watch movies on to watch a Hollywood movie on a mainstream channel; only watched it due to it sounding interesting and it having a good rating on IMDB. Turned out to be a heap of manure with special effects. In contrast I have recently watched two excellent late 60s French movies on that élite culture channel which managed to do much better with much simpler means.

Why can't mainstream culture be more refined and people appreciate formation more? Why does things like 100% educational programmes and classical concerts have to be put on the niche élite culture channel these days instead of being send on the main channels like they used to just a mere couple decades ago? Why must civilised people suffer from most people not having formation?

Sorry for the rant, but it has just annoyed me for a while the élite culture keeps getting pushed into more and more niche corners/dumbed down.
Just like how being given 15 million $ and told to make a proper, educational series about 1864 gets dumbed down to focus on a love triangle, have psychic soldiers, use wrong facts, use low brow symbolics, and having two boys masturbate into a jar.

It used to be so that proper things were produced and then if the masses didn't like it that was their bad; then that changed and I am still mad about it. They also dumbed down a really excellent historical quiz where you actually could learn something and where it was assumed you had a basic knowledge.

But that's how mainstream works? Whenever you start getting into stuff you need to venture away from the mainstream and really get into it, or else it gets pretty boring pretty fast. Or you keep changing your interests and only interact with them short and cursory.

It sadly is true. Oh and just to make the love triangle more cliched the two boys of course are brothers.
And they of course had to have a modern day arch which they teleport to from time to time and whose sole reason for being there is to decry the politics of the right wing government of the 2000s...
I really had high hopes for that series given that it was granted with the specific order to make it good; make it a piece of élite culture which people could be proud of. And then Ole Bornedal makes that heap of manure. Look at 20 seconds into the trailer: That is the two boys and the girl of the love triangle. And the boys are of that age when Bornedal has them masturbate into a jar. How sick do you have to be to think that is something good to put into a series?

And here is a little clip from the series. Dinesen who is focused on in it is the father of world famous author Karen Blixen.

Among other things they murder the character of Detlev Monrad by giving him the entire blame of the war and pretending that Bismarck was a gentle man who really didn't want a war... Thereby excluding many, many Danes who most certainly had a responsibility in it going to war just so that you can dumb down the political aspects of it, murder the legacy of Monrad, and then focus on the battles...

My dictionary told me that finkultur translated to élite culture with the accent; alternatively to high culture, but élite culture being the most correct. The literal translation would be fine culture.
