The largest minority group is any arbitrary collection of ceiling((total population)/2) - 1 people, where ceiling(x) is non-standard notation for the ceiling value of x (i.e. round up to nearest integer).

Took me the better part of an hour to come up with this formula, the least ya'll could do is acknowledge it.

I can use google too, but I found a separate answer elsewhere, though by now that might be dated.
Wow Rov, I'm hurt that you think that i'd do something so egregious as searching the question on google.

You know, I like that the Punnet Square for homozygous x heterozygous alleles works out to be 50/50 either heterozygous or homozygous. I don't know if it works the same way for the x and y chromosomes, though.

(And I'm not mentioning the other configurations of the 23 chromosome pair on purpose. Since my schooling isn't even close to there.)
Nature has a slight preference for females so outside of things like drowning your girls (or getting them aborted these days) as happens in certain parts of the world there will be more females than males.

I don't think they collect data on party affiliation...? Or do they?
What third world country is the US?
Any country which doesn't collect data in a way which made the KGB envious are not proper countries.:p
(You get one guess as to which country has such surveilence/data collection systems.)

Because of preference for male babies in India and China, that is globally not true, but it still doesn't matter. That would be like dividing the human population by GDP in a 51% of population with more than the 49% res and declaring the bottom 49% a minority group.
Hence why I said at least in the west.
And the GDP example is a poor camparison, since GDP isn't determined by biology. Gender is decided by biology just like skin colour. How can you say that black people are a minority, but men aren't? Because how are blacks different from whites if not from their biological differences?
(Also I am not saying men should have minority protection; just that you can't say men aren't a minority.)

Yes. They are self-proclaimed members of a certain group.

Why shouldn't minority be declared by gender?

The sociopolitical sense of minority (an oppressed group) might not be applicable to gender, probably. But the technical sense where it's not the largest group or where it makes up <50% of the population can be.
Minority =/= oppressed group
Also, the political parties in America really aren't that clearly defined. It's hard to say exactly where the line between Republican, moderate, and Liberal lies in contemporary US politics, and many people don't necessarily agree entirely with either party. (Also, I believe that currently more people identify as Independent than either of the two big parties.)

It's stupid because it would divide all pre-existing minority groups in half for little reason. Also, because it's so close to half of the population in virtually every society that it doesn't actually matter.

Absolute nonsense here. Political parties are clearly defined. There is no "moderate" party and there is no "Liberal" party. You're conflating political sensibilities and ideologies with parties.

Certainly I don't think political party identification means much. But your rebuttal here is garbage.

I don't know if people used to agree antirely with the American parties though that seems strange, but at least here in Europe nobody agrees entirely with any party.

It's stupid because it would divide all pre-existing minority groups in half for little reason. Also, because it's so close to half of the population in virtually every society that it doesn't actually matter.
Still a minority; a minority being big doesn't make it less of a minority. And why would it halve all other minorities? People can be members of several groups. So a black man would both be a member of the male minority and the black minority.

Natural sex ratio at birth for human beings is actually around 105 males born to every 100 females born. In certain places in the world (i.e., large sectors of China/India), the ratio is higher due to artificial factors, which you have alluded to. Males have this bad habit of dying more early (partially through more idiocy/risk-taking behavior, partially for biological reasons)

Look, there is no moderate party. But to say that the two dominant political parties in America are clearly defined is also garbage. You don't have to register to belong to either of them, they don't have a defined set of policies that all members agree on. You an belong to the democratic party and disagree on a number of policies withanother member of the democratic party.

Simply not true. The two political parties are clearly defined, and if one belongs to the Democratic party, but doesn't agree with them on all issues, one is still a part of the Democratic party. That the political parties aren't perfect hiveminds does not mean they are not clearly defined.

Simply not true. The two political parties are clearly defined, and if one belongs to the Democratic party, but doesn't agree with them on all issues, one is still a part of the Democratic party. That the political parties aren't perfect hiveminds does not mean they are not clearly defined.
The impression I get is that they aren't well defined. I primarily get this impression because they cover so much of the political spectrum (there being only two really viable parties meaning many more people with a wider range of viewpoints claim either of those two parties). Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get. For instance, HIllary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are both potential Democratic Party nominees for President, but they're a ways apart on the political spectrum.

You clearly aren't even reading anything I type, so I'm not continuing this.
