Xenophile and psionic/synthetic/gene ascention

I'm playing a xenophile empire with psionic ascention and have over 20 races in my empire. Sometimes I can't even choose leaders who have psionic bonuses.

How can you manage xenophile empire and ascention in this game? Or are these things mutually exclusive?

I say embrace xeno-compability if you are xenophile and let the wonderful chaos of diversity do its thing. Then the problem becomes how the AI picks who will do each job, but an empire with 20 races plus all the half-everything should be booming due to having a specialized pop ideal for every job.

I see manually modding your entire population as something to do when you don't expect new people constantly coming in from the outside and it makes sense to me.
