Kind of beating my head against a wall over this one. Can anyone link me to a basic tutorial on this, or potentially a mod that already does this? How do I make it so certain conditions need to apply in order to create a half (whatever) species? I.e, humanoids can only hybridize with other humanoids, insectoids only with other insectoids etc etc. Kind of getting sick of "half human" aliens with starfish or snail portraits cropping up in my game, among other things.

I don't think that's possible. Whether a species can crossbreed in general is defined in:

00_scripted_triggers.txt -> is_crossbreeding_possible = {

And whether it's possible for crossbreeding to take place on a planet is defined in:

00_rules.txt -> can_crossbreed_species_on_planet = {

...but I don't think you can use those to define whether two specific species can crossbreed with each other.

Or if you don't want do yourself(well,I don't know why he don't keep is_crossbreeding_possible = yes independent):
