As we all know, 40k is quite popular among the fandom here for some obvious reasons. However, I just realized that xeno compatibility can be used in a very interesting way if turned into a species trait. What am I getting at?

If xeno compatibility can be turned into a species trait, we can play our favourite space gene theives. Couple that with an espionage system, we can have a truly insidious way to spread our empire outside of combating.

What do you guys think? We all ready got Space Marines, why not show love to the 4 armed Emperor.

Xeno-compatibility is cancer. If there are N species, then there N!/(2! * (N-1)!), or simplified 0.5*N*(N-1) possible Hybrid species. If a galaxy has 10 species, then there could be 45 hybrid species. If a galaxy has 20 species, then there could be 190 Hybrid species, so on and so forth. That kind of clutter is on the GUI is gross. Personally, it'd be better if Xeno-compatibility was limited only to species of the same portrait type.

Compare 32 species like it is now to 32 species if there were 4 of each of the 8 portrait types and limited to interbreeding between them. (32/2)*31 = 496, versus ((4/2)*3) *8 = 48.
Granted it'd be far less useful as an ascension perk, but goddamn do I hate the UI clutter.

Or maybe we could fix the GUI so that on the top layer all species show the total number of pops regardless of subspecies, and then have a toggle menu which show the breakdown by subspecies.

Personally, it'd be better if Xeno-compatibility was limited only to species of the same portrait type.
I just wait for a Hybrid Species with good traits (in particular Event Traits) and then mod the entire species to look like that.
That or I have them conerge on the baseline again in hopes they reroll that Hybrid combination.

And latest when you use those extra Trait Selections/Points, the species will be prefered for growth.

I heard of a Mod that adds "Bordello" Megacorporation. And apparently the Branch Offices of that Megacorp have a Compability Effect as well.
And of course there is the Caraveneer event.

Adding a trait and a event that reacts to the trait or modifying the existing Xenocomp code is not hard for modders.

Ugh I agree, I didn't even take the perk and my empire is full of hybrids. It's annoying having to genmod 30+ species into something usable.

Actually imagining a Xeno bordello is disgusting. How anyone can imagine a fungoid interbreeding with anything else and not be disgusted amazes me.

Whenever I play my empires, I only allow humanoids,mammalians,avians, and reptilians to exist within my empire.

All plantoids, molluscoids, arthropoids, and fungoids are expelled from my territory.

I exclusively play xenophobes. Sex-shaming fungoids is entirely valid within the purview of roleplaying. While I'm at it, I may as well art-shame, because not only is that comic atrociously ugly, it also has too many walls of text. Show, don't tell.

I think that's getting a bit personal, and I don't know you well enough to consider ribbing each other to be all that appropriate.
Can we get back to the topic of the thread?

Xeno-compatibility while well meaning and interesting gameplay wise and roleplay wise, really just guarantees way too many subspecies. Also the implications of interspecies reproduction makes way for SO MUCH prostitution and sexual slavery that it would make Las Vegas look like a convent, unless this is all done in test tubes. In which case you really have to wonder why your empire's scientists are devoting so much of their time to creating the perfect molluscoid-humanoid hybrid.

Xeno-compatibility is cancer. If there are N species, then there N!/(2! * (N-1)!), or simplified 0.5*N*(N-1) possible Hybrid species. If a galaxy has 10 species, then there could be 45 hybrid species. If a galaxy has 20 species, then there could be 190 Hybrid species, so on and so forth. That kind of clutter is on the GUI is gross. Personally, it'd be better if Xeno-compatibility was limited only to species of the same portrait type.

Compare 32 species like it is now to 32 species if there were 4 of each of the 8 portrait types and limited to interbreeding between them. (32/2)*31 = 496, versus ((4/2)*3) *8 = 48.
Granted it'd be far less useful as an ascension perk, but goddamn do I hate the UI clutter.

Or maybe we could fix the GUI so that on the top layer all species show the total number of pops regardless of subspecies, and then have a toggle menu which show the breakdown by subspecies.

Wrong as you can have hybrids of hybrids and you have all the new types of the original species. so its far worse :)

Xenocompatibilty seem like a nice idea RP wise but it's indeed a mess.

It creates clutter, makes everything hybridize with everything else with mixxed results.

Personally I would make it so that the allow you to create yourself hybrids. You pick a specie and modify a template, the hybrid option let you chose a template of an other specie. From that you can create a new template that uses only traits from the two templates and let chose a portrait between the two and a name.

That way you have a bit more control (and ok a bit more micro) and a bit less clutter particularly if you have 20 different species on your planets.

And RP wise that make sense: Hybridizing species should be a case by case genetic engineering. Not a magic want that make everything compatible to everything else (you can do it but it require working on all cases).

Basically xeno-compatibility makes it necessary to have a thorough revision, or a complete abolition, of the template system. Either you need to introduce bulk-biomodding into the template system (say I can give 20 pop sub groups with one spare trait point and slot the 'Natural Physicist' trait as one operation and project) or else abolish the template system entirely for bio-pops, having traits vary pop to pop and gene-modding happening through buildings/jobs that give pops additional traits that help them with their present work.

In the latter instance, something like genestealers could be a really cool addition - I think it would need to be part of an espionage add-on however.

I dont really see the point of xeno compatibility I would think its better to go for another ascension perk
the point is +20% growth rate, 33% immigration pull, and +1/+1 trait points/trait limit

I can understand the growth rate and maybe the leader points, but the immigration pull? Ugh. Gross. Why would people want to go to a planet where bird people are having sex with squid people? Maybe Fanatic purifiers aren't as crazy as I originally thought.

Also I wonder if it's possible to mod Xeno-compatibility to make it so that species can only reproduce with species of the same portrait types, like avians with avians, molluscoids with molluscoids.
