25/4
An important date in Australian, New Zealand and France... ANZAC, Australia, New Zealand Army Corps.
A date to remember the landings on Ottoman territory. A day to remember the youngest known Australian soldier, Pvt James Martin who died at the age of 14 years and 9 months, born in 1901 and died in 1915 facing 'Johnny Turk'
"Don't worry Mother, I'm doing splendid over here" he said to his family...
A boy gave his life in WW I, 1915, so that we could live in peace and freedom. His best friend was only 16, Cecil 'Cec' Hogan.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
Lest we forget those who laid down their lives so we may live in freedom... German, Japanese, Hungarian English, Indian, nor any other nation that these gallant young men sprang from in our, OUR hour of call. The men who donned their uniforms and fought for better or worse for theirs, and our way of life.
Bless those who laid down their lives in the name of their nation.
Lest we forget.
