"Hey ladies and gentlemen! Prepare to be awed and amazed, with the awesomeness and ambitiousness of my new mod, one never done before by mortal hands, one alone in the sea of mods about making Bilbo Baggins High Poncho of Mordor, or migrating the Byzantine empire into Scandinavia...) This mod presents a world unseen by mortal eyes, one of migratory hordes, endless raiders, the fall of Rome and those who made good off of it."

Presentation:

When the World Stopped Making Sense (shortened into WtWSMS) is a major overhaul mod for CK2 created by the forumite Enlil (also known as "the Emperor" or "God of Enlilism" amongst the fans) in April 2014. It started off as a simple AAR made by Enlil himself to preview the mod, called "When the World Stopped Making Sense [A 480 Migrational Period AAR]". Later split into one mod thread, the mod that was centred around the Dark Ages and had a main start-date in 480 grew far beyond what Enlil has expected.

A lot of people remembered the old projects of this time period that had failed or been abandoned, so when Enlil stated that he had a WtWSMS "Alpha" it amassed comments and quickly became one of the biggest threads of the CK2 modding forum, receiving a sticky. Some other forumites got early engaged in helping him out with suggestions/ideas or code and would in late June 2014 constitute a beta team of devs and testers located in this group. After a very long development period and a few AARS and dev diaries by Enlil and others (that can be found below), the mod was considered as ready for an open beta release which was shared with the masses on the 31st of December 2014. In the aftermath of the release, a team was constituted who continued development and prepared for the 1.0.0. The mod became in early Januarry 2015 the first PDS-mod to have been granted a sub-forum so quickly after release.

Scope

Idea:

The scope of WtWSMS has been classed as huge, infeasible or unplausible. While it definitely is a massive overhaul, When the World Stopped Making Sense aims to use the CK2 game and completely overhaul it in order to make it fit for many new settings and a general era as a theme, the Migrational Era. With the 1.0.0 version, the base of this will hopefully be achieved, so that the development can continue and make the different realms, cultures, religions and governments more unique and flavourful.

Comparison:
After reading this through, you may still be wondering, why should I play WtWSMS and not LI or another Dark Ages mod? Is it unique? What is special about it? Well, the difference between this mod and others, amongst the more notable ones, like Lux Invicta and The Winter King, is that this is centred around an historical and dynamical plausible concept, modelling the Dark Ages throughout the period 476-700 (in a future version).

Beta Release
When the World Stopped Making Sense
written by His Divine Excellency, King of Kings, Emperor of All Men, Lord of the Near and Nigh Enlil, Mesopotamian God of Storms

Welcome:
"Charles Fairhair," alxeu,

You are a Beta Tester, a brave adventurer, sent out to discover bugs, inadequacies and mistakes in the game. You are one of a chosen Elite, my Praetorians, Excubitors, Scholae Palatinae, Varangians. I did not select you people (You did not find this mod by chance) for YES-men, who fawn over me and say how perfect it is. (Not that I would complain...) I need you people to be blunt, caustic, and overly aware of every little problem. (But not mean, be tasteful people) Some of you are experienced modders yourselves, some of you are just smart people, some of you can word the mod errors into clever puns. But this is our hour, the gilded moment of our triumph. It is this day we win, or die trying. There will be hardships, there may be historical inaccuracies so bad some may die. There may be none. Some of us will gaze into the thousand mawed monster that is Armorica, and lose your minds forever. You might be mourned. There will be casualties and loss, but we will emerge stronger than ever before, we will release the best mod this forum has ever seen, and one day, a dev might even post in this badboy. For us band of brothers (and sisters???), us happy, lucky few. On this feast day of Crispian...

The Bestiary

"Catholics are OP" Martin Luther, Circa 1520

Bugs: Bugs, Glitches, and other negative Nelsons get reported in the bug forum. Don't just say there is one, find that corrupted apple that is ruining the crop, and tell me how to purge it, and if you can't find a solution, or it is too difficult to fix, we label it WAD and never look at it again

Missing Stuff: Did I forget something that should be in? Tell me in the Suggestions thread! Something missing can be as damaging as any bug. And it is common scientific knowledge that bugs are gross and icky.

Inaccuracies: There will be some. Tell me what I should do to make it better.

The Armory

"Remember your three assets, confidence, creativity, and courage. Also, numbers, you're going to want some of those" Micheal Swaim, circa 2004

This Forum: This bastion of hope and dreams will be your main source of reporting bugs. With great power, comes great coolness...

PM's: PM me if you want to directly tell me something super important. Only for emergencies, but not for, like a fire or something. Use 911, I refuse to put out a fire or stop a home invasion.

Modding Quick Questions Forum: Those guys are like, bros

Each Other: PM each other, I personally don't care if you fill IsadorBG's mailbox up, just not mine.

The Main Mod Page: Feel free to start up a discussion about the game that does not involve if Theodoric was Emperor.

Books: I don't know, there could be stuff in them.

911: I'm sure the police would love to come over and help you find that missing bracket in the landed titles.

Piracy
"Aargh Matey!" President Abraham "Blackbeard" Lincoln, Gettysburg Address

Don't steal stuff from this mod until it is released, and then you can use whatever you want if you give credit, as long as you ask and it is not going into another 480 mod.

The Link
"No, I thought of Tyre too, but in context of providing a hint to people I thought that line would make people think of Vandal Carthage instantly." Last Known Words of the Messiah Shaytana, circa 456 B.C.

The thread for Release 0.9.7.

In Conclusion
"I have this dream of mine..." Ragnarr Loðbrók, French accountant

My faithful champions, my holy legions, I thank you all for being patient. This is still a beta, and there will be bugs, but I'm sure that you would rather play and help now that wait more months for a "more complete" version. Have fun you guys, and I hope to continue to improve this mod with the help of the dev team, who are a wonderful people who have made so much of this possible.

OP updated with more info and details, it should now be fully functional (except for the "Current Progress"). I will do a last preview too, for interesting characters and a 0.9.5 release will be whenever we think it is bugfree enough. ;) And no, Enlil is still the authour, developer, main guy, emperor and etc, I'm just a bit more responsable for the forum stuff. Anyone wanting to contribute with art or a new trailer is free to do so.
Now everything should be good and the progress a bit more logical, I will go on and update the other threads.

Also, I would like to repeat that if anyone would like to help us out with this mod, either by joining the team and frequently contribute with code, joining the group to test the mod, contributing with ideas and concepts or simply work on a domain that this mod modifies and send that to us, you are free to do so and it would be appreciated. Any germanspeakers could also help out with localising the mod into that language. If any of these interest you, contact a team member by PM or post here and we will talk about it. Even if you have zero experience of coding or testing before, no problems, we can help you.

We are currently lacking a bit of manpower, so anyone who would like to contribute would speed up things and help us getting out of the beta phase more quickly.

Where exactly would we get the .mod file needed for launching the mod?
I have the data folder and all, but I can't find a .mod file anywhere. (I may, very well be, blind. I've been that I am before)

*EDIT*

Yes, it turns out I am blind, I didn't realize 3 of the 6 folders in the main file were .mods... (I'm laughing at myself right now)

same thing happened to me :))

Dev Diary: Roman Legions

Hello there fans, its Erik the Mapmaker here, Second-in-Command for WTWSMS.

You may have seen me battling Mr Capitalist an co. in the Culture/Melting Pot Discussions or discussing map-changes in the Cartography Section.

But now, I am here to tell you about one of the upcoming major additions for WTWSMS:

ROMAN LEGIONS.

That is right, the Romans will now be able to use historical troops to reconquer the world they once owned. So let me show you what Im talking about:

7mFlNMC.jpg

jYlcJBm.jpg

So, what are some of the features of the Legions?

- First and foremost, they are all the same size, 1800 men.

- Second is that they can declare war on their lieges to depose them, so now it is even more dangerous than ever to be an Emperor!

- Third is that not all of the Legions are direct vassals of the Emperor. To explain, let us take a look at the Eastern Empire:

mj4qj02.jpg

As you can see, even with all the money in the world, Emperor Basiliskus can't hire all the Legions at once. He only commands 7 of the 15 Legions currently stationed across the Eastern Empire. The Governors of Macedonia and Egypt both control 3 Legions, while Pontus and the Oriens hold 1 each.

But perhaps the most exciting thing about the Legions is that they can be restored or created.

0QV2Ld1.jpg

"Organize the Legio I Mesopotamia" is a decision that allows you to create a new Legion if you fully control the Duchy of Oshroene. When you activate it, you will have a new Legion vassalized. Now, Legions that require duchies to be formed are rare, most of them require that you hold an entire Kingdom before you can organize them.

CojjXly.jpg

Now, this doesn't mean that we have Legions ready for every single Kingdom in the game. Though more Legions are planned, currently there are restorable Legions only in the former provinces of the United Empire, with the exception of Britannia. Also, the number of Legions varies from Province to Province. For Example, Julius Nepos in Dalmatia can organize 3 Legions while Africa has 2 raisable Legions and Lusitania has 1

f7bjVUF.jpg

Okay, the last feature I will cover here is who can be of any actual usage of the Legions and their future. Obviously, Barbarians can't hire Roman Legions. In fact, the only ones that can use the Legions are Romans, Romano-Barbarians, all Greeks except for the Bosporans, Aeolians and Tsakonians and finally, Christian or Roman/Greek Pagan Armenians. This means that a Zoroastrian Armenian can't hire Legions, but it also means that the "Barbarian" Isaurian Emperor Zeno will not be able to use the Legions.

Now the final feature is the future of the Legions. As Rome withers away, so does the Legions. They are currently losing 100 men per century, so you better make use of them while you can.

That is all for me. See you in the threads!

Do you have any plans to make it possible to stop the deterioration of the legions?
Yes, definetly, that is our aim to have that possible in one way or another for a sucessful "roman" player.

Also, in the Soonupdate of WtWSMS, I'm proud to announce that thanks to one change made by Romullien the Imperial Air Bahrein has flown it's last flight! The pilots are getting relocated and used elsewhere, so don't worry, no need for any strikes. ;)

For the next update, I personally plan on looking at the cultural localisations and wrap those up aswell as tweaking/researching for some holy sites. Scandinavia will also be incomming, just not yet.

I also want to mention that we are aware of the three big main issues at the moment, the random crashes, a bit too aggresive raids in certain places and crazy migration troops. All of those will be fixed in the next release.

For those who wondered and wanted a video on how to install the mod, here Voltspark made a tutorial a short while ago:

NOTE: I did not look at the video which seems a bit long, but there you have the bases.

Nicely done, thanks Voltspark !

One extra step could be to launch the game and verify the checksum, to confirm installation is OK :)

Also, for those interested, we discussed the wiki a bit on the old forums, here: http://oldforum.paradoxplaza.com/fo...e-Wiki-Started-Making-Sense-Our-own-wiki-page.

A list of interesting characters would certainly be useful !
About mechanics like migratory invasion or rise of Islam, maybe it's best to wait for release 1.0 to describe them in detail, as they are being reworked/fixed during the beta.

EDIT: For broken links, they will fix themselves soon according to forum admins. ;)
