Hello,

I generally like the new DLC and update, a lot of good improvements on many aspects of the game that needed attention.

But as a player who especially enjoys achievements (as they in Paradox games give you an object for the campaign, which I find very nice to have, I generally don't play for achievements in other games) I feel like in this DLC they were a huge disappointment.

Here are my conclusions about the new achievements:
1. Many of the achievements are very frustrating or even impossible to complete. Awake and Angry needs a WC, and I guess there was another one (People have stood up) that requires a WC because you need to conquer the Allied cities in China. Leveling up a general to LVL10 is a huge grind (and I guess it was impossible too, as the max. level is 9). And then the Making man out of you is just plain stupid and again a grind.
2. Many of the achievements don't work on the release. I mean, you couldn't even complete Awake and Angry. And max. level for general was 9 but requirement was 10. I feel like the achievements were pretty much overlooked in the development and it really shows. And to me personally, the Awake and Angry -achievement felt like the point of the whole DLC as you could now play China properly and beat the Japanese and was my first choice for a campaign. And then it doesn't even work. Glad that it's now fixed in 1.5.1 but still I feel disappointed.
3. The new achievements are overall pretty much quite boring and uninspiring. Annex this, annex that, nuke that and then some very uninspiring grinding achievements. I feel like there could be a lot of nice ideas for achievements (like there are in CK2 and EUIV). For me achievements like "Nobody expects..." (conquer Paris with Nat. Spain before Germany) are quite fun as they give you a challenge and a clear objective that requires your own creativity and planning to achieve and there are multiple ways you could complete it. Achievements like build 100 factories need none of that, just a lot of mouse clicking. And the achievements like People have stood up and Awake and Angry are just WC, which I don't find very appealing as they don't give you much freedom when you have to conquer almost the whole freaking planet to complete and become a grind in the late game.

I don't know how many players are out there that also enjoys the Paradox achievements and feel them as an important part of new DLC's, so I won't be expecting that PDX improves this part with HOI4 as there are more urgent things to do. But then again, I don't think that achievements are that difficult to make and with a little more time they could be enjoyable and work on release.

I love it to hunt for achievements and with them I have some sort of reason to play more countries. I don't mind some "uninspiring" achievements, but I hate it, that you have to do a WC for three of the new achievements and a half WC for "Our Other Place in the Sun". But in the end, not the requirements for these achievements are the problem, instead, it is the peace system, which forces you to capitulate every major. And if a CW breaks out in one of the countries you need a piece of land from, you can't get it, because the rebels will join you and you can't demand land from your faction members....

Great answers, thanks! And yeah, I wouldn't mind uninspiring achievements as well. But the thing is we got 18 new achievements and I feel like at least half of them are lacking in quality and two of them weren't even working (so 11% of the new achievements were broken). If there are this few achievements I would expect a higher quality.

And as Rider_of_doom said, the thing with achievements is that they give you a reason to play different countries and try different things. But when the achievements for PRC for example are so bad it's a real shame and I feel like not playing it at all. But sadly I feel similarly for almost all of the new achievements, they are just not as interesting as they've been before. I would really hope that PDX would step up with achievements in future expansions or at least change the requirements for current ones to not be so WC-heavy as they currently are.

I really like HOI4 and it really buggers me that it isn't getting same amount of love as EU4 or CK2 with the achievements. I would seriously love some historical challenge achievements as well (like there are in CK2) because I feel like most of the achievements in the game are suggesting to play unhistorical (which is nice, but at least some historical challenges would be nice). I guess True Blitzkrieg (conquer Poland and France as Germany) is pretty much the only historical achievement we got. What about for example playing as US and nuking Japan to end WW2? Or as Finland making over 5 times more casualties in Winter War than Soviets? Having air superiority as UK in Britain in 1940? Something like lend leasing artillery as Sweden? There is so much uncovered potential there.

The Manchuko achievments are good, but you don't need to conquer the allied cities for that. The two German achievments are okay, a bit boring, I am not sure if you need to conquer the allied cities for awake and angry. Make a Man out of you and Battlecry basically go together since they both require you to take over all of China. I like the two Japanese ones. Australia-Hungary, My Ships don't lie and I swear I'm not Byzantophile are just the goofy PDX achievments I like.
