Hello,
I generally like the new DLC and update, a lot of good improvements on many aspects of the game that needed attention.
But as a player who especially enjoys achievements (as they in Paradox games give you an object for the campaign, which I find very nice to have, I generally don't play for achievements in other games) I feel like in this DLC they were a huge disappointment.
Here are my conclusions about the new achievements:
1. Many of the achievements are very frustrating or even impossible to complete. Awake and Angry needs a WC, and I guess there was another one (People have stood up) that requires a WC because you need to conquer the Allied cities in China. Leveling up a general to LVL10 is a huge grind (and I guess it was impossible too, as the max. level is 9). And then the Making man out of you is just plain stupid and again a grind.
2. Many of the achievements don't work on the release. I mean, you couldn't even complete Awake and Angry. And max. level for general was 9 but requirement was 10. I feel like the achievements were pretty much overlooked in the development and it really shows. And to me personally, the Awake and Angry -achievement felt like the point of the whole DLC as you could now play China properly and beat the Japanese and was my first choice for a campaign. And then it doesn't even work. Glad that it's now fixed in 1.5.1 but still I feel disappointed.
3. The new achievements are overall pretty much quite boring and uninspiring. Annex this, annex that, nuke that and then some very uninspiring grinding achievements. I feel like there could be a lot of nice ideas for achievements (like there are in CK2 and EUIV). For me achievements like "Nobody expects..." (conquer Paris with Nat. Spain before Germany) are quite fun as they give you a challenge and a clear objective that requires your own creativity and planning to achieve and there are multiple ways you could complete it. Achievements like build 100 factories need none of that, just a lot of mouse clicking. And the achievements like People have stood up and Awake and Angry are just WC, which I don't find very appealing as they don't give you much freedom when you have to conquer almost the whole freaking planet to complete and become a grind in the late game.
I don't know how many players are out there that also enjoys the Paradox achievements and feel them as an important part of new DLC's, so I won't be expecting that PDX improves this part with HOI4 as there are more urgent things to do. But then again, I don't think that achievements are that difficult to make and with a little more time they could be enjoyable and work on release.
