Wtf? Why i inherited a nation without any armies?

So my ruler died and my son, which is now me, has no army at all to raise while my previous ruler was at 100%. I got dismantled by revolts.

Is it because my heir was way over desmenze size in the first place?

If you don't have any demesne troops, you're probably way over your demesne limit and need to either centralize or award land to your vassals.
If you don't have any vassal troops, you're probably way over your vassal limit and need to consolidate your vassals into superdukes/kings.
If you don't have any troops at all from either source, you need to do both.

He was over his demesne size by a lot, but AS SOON as he inherited like my 3k army from his father disappeared. It didn't even give me time to redestribute.

I was expecting something like having 3k army but only be able to raise 500, not losing everything.

Yeah, you don't really get a grace period there. On the bright side, if you give out titles you get the levies back immediately, so pause and give titles out as soon as you inherit.

That's odd. In my current game I just managed to become HRE and had no vassal levies upon taking the throne. As soon as I consolidated my vassals a bit I could raise their levies again.
