was so shocked when it happened. been a while since i was in one so missed that update ha.
also cheated and reloaded save from 2 months back and ill accept this time. kinda cheating though!

I do want to go to war against the empire just not for a year or two.
suggestion - add the otpion to decline but agree to declare war on a set date - in civ5 you could ask for 10 turns to prepere.

Same here instead of yes or no we should be able to go yes but we need time (2 years?) to move ships and armies into position ect!!! what do you guys think?

did everybody agree to it but you be the only one who disagreed? If so then that would definately explain it. They don't want you holding them back, haha
If the entire federation is in agreement to start the war, you're better off agreeing to it regardless of what they think. Because the war is across the whole federation instead of just you, you have some time to build up your forces.

I went from good friends with defensive pact and such to almost rivals in the course of a few months with an AI because it kept spamming me with a war request I wanted nothing to do with. Me thinks the system could use a bit of a rework.

currently I think federations are at their best as a player-player alliance tool, I think we need a Space HRE equivalent for those of us who like to amass AI hordes but want more nuance than a vassel system.

Oh I see, it was because of multiple requests for war. You should have specified. Quite honestly, I think the whole federation political system needs to be expanded upon, as there's plenty of room for there to be politics involved beyond simple opinion modifiers. Such a thing would be especially helpful for cases where you DO want war, and to do more than just liberate two or three planets.

YES! i just intimated this in another thread. I would gladly pay for a HRE federation system, that different types of alliances to be crafted and developed with different goals & objectives, ranging from open borders, science oriented, militaristic, ethos focused, or a combination, complete with decisions on how leaders are put into office (elected or rotational) , tenure period, financial/militaristic contributions, whether the alliance allows members to join other alliances, or excludes specific ones (i.e. you this a militaristic alliance. you can join other alliances, as long as they dont have a military focus, or any alliance nations x,y,z are a part of).

This would create real dynamism in alliances, and in some way allow enough variations to have situations where it can be a loose contract, where various nations share scientific discoveries, to something as tight knit and complex as the Republic in Star Wars (including the option to convert it into an a single unified empire)

This is one of the main reasons I prefer to avoid Federations unless there is no other way to survive.
I understand that my allies are a bit upset when I won't back their plans. But this shouldn't stack to the point that they hate me even more than the people they hate enough to go to war with. Maybe the maximum should be -20 modiefier "Voted against our interests", or something?

I got -50 opinion the first time I declined. Now I did not answer on the 2nd request, meaning it should have auto-declined after a few months, but I did not see it stack up, as OP had it.

Was this patched in the meantime? (I'm playing v2.2.4 beta) maybe I should stop necroing old threads^^ - Will watch opinion and report back if / when I auto-decline the next time...

Edit: Auto-Declining the 3rd request definitely didn't stack opinion modifier - still at minus 49 (!)
Edit 2: So I decided to decline the 4th request manually by voting "No" again, and this DID stack: -99 opinion modifier now!
Edit 3: after the 5th request the requests stopped. Not sure if there is a hard cap, or if the situation / balance of power shifted.

So for now the "workaround" to this problem is to ignore it and let it auto-decline! - Sounds like a bug.

Now I only need to remember not to invite another Federation member so they have the majority next time^^

P.S.: Modifier goes away +1 per year - so I "only" have to wait 99 years... - luckily I'm still enough in the positive to not have my federation break on me... - edit: as the requests stopped, for now I can't even let it break on purpose by the requester (by stacking "enough" war-declines)... - I mean I can still break it the normal way (- giving me a malus with the same empire simply for breaking the federation.)

Dude.... You necroed a thread from Feb 2017...

See my edit: it behaves inconsistent - looks like a bug: declining actively stacks opnion malus as OP described, having it auto-decline does not (!) count / stack opinion modifier.
I'm betting that if I had not reacted the very first time, I would not have a negative opinion modifier at all!

P.S.: the thing why I end up necroing old threads is, that when I google for a problem / question I have, it still comes up with those threads in the first 3 hits... - and as it shows, it actually happens to be still an issue.

In general it's far better to open a new thread if the old one has been dead for more than a couple of months.

In this case it's not too bad as the thread never really got going, but in some cases it dredges up outdated (and thus now wrong) information.
