So this will be -50% in the release version? Someone's going to have to do the maths over again :D
Does this also apply to the other "wrong holding" pairs?

-50% might still be too good to exploit, so we'll see.

Well, all this assumes that it makes sense to simply prohibit the holding, by imposing a penalty so stiff that it amounts to a prohibition. Maybe -33% for a Count, -67% for a Duke and -90% for a King? I'm not saying I have historical examples, but for lower level people it doesn't seem so odd to hang onto a City (e.g. the Count lives there as his primary residence). OTOH if the income is just out of whack then I suppose only a "never do that again" penalty is the way to go.

After I exploited this too much during the week :eek:o Doomdark changed the penalty to -50%.

I was wondering about this. The penalty has been sitting at 25% for more than a month, and I thought maybe you guys wanted us to grab bishoprics and cities for ourselves.

Are you guys wanting to make it a no-brainer to hand off wrong type holdings? Or are you aiming for it being a no-brainer to hold wrong-type holdings? Or are you moving in a "could go either way" direction?

Maybe, towards the end of the game and with a certain tech level, it should be possible to own a few cities. Or the penalty should increase with the increase in wrong holdings.

I think some relation hit with your vassals if you have wrong holding type would be nice. Lets say -10 for every wrong holing. This way you could use wrong types in small realms, but if you have a lot of vassals the increased income from wrong holdings is probably not worth the relation hit (=decreased tax and levies) with many vassals.

I mean, historically, only very few feudal lords held cities directly (I'm looking at you, Sforzas and Medicis) - more generally a Lord Mayor or similar was employed, reporting directly to the ruler

I don't think you should take the stance of owning a city should ALWAYS be bad for you. Especially since you can't play as a mayor or bishop, having a chance to control one of those holdings is interesting. Having it be so you always want to get rid of them no matter what wouldn't be very fun, imo.

Exactly, it shouldn't be a no-brainer either way. I like building wrong-type holding buildings! Monastic schools, university.. the cool stuff :)

I'm confident Paradox will make it a real choice however (if the penalties are too stiff they could just as well prohibit the holding).

Isnt it possible somehow to change the type of capital ?
I had the problem myself and someone answered that you can grant the barony-title to the holder of the castle in the province. I tested it this afternoon and it works, the capital changes to the castle holding. But of course you do not own the barony any longer ... you have to reclaim the title afterwards.

Or is there a better solution?

Can one baron hold more than one holding ?

Yes they can have more than just one barony.

Another way is to own several of the holdings in the county and give those away you don't want to be the capital and that you leave the last will become the main holding in the county as you will be the count of the county. You should be able for example give the main castle holding to a baron and keep the secondery castle that will then be the capital holding.

any limit there ?
if over limit, do they threw away any wrong type holding first ?
