Writing from a child's perspective

Hello,

first of all I want to apologize if this is not the correct place to post this but I scrolled a bit through this forum and couldn't find anything so far so here it goes.

In my current AAR (shameless advertising ) I had my ruler die early and am currently ruling as a 10 year old boy. I have chosen to write in first person for now and I found it extremely difficult to find the right vocabulary/syntax/grammar for mainly 3 reasons:

a) I can't remember how good my (or anyone else's for that matter) rhetorical skills were at that age
b) I am not a native speaker which amplifies point a)
c) I am unsure as to how children matured in medieval times compared to nowadays

If anyone has any advice or experiences to share that would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe write similar to the events that are triggered if your character is a child. Not much of a helpful tip... but still...

Yeah I am trying to include those already but that doesn't really solve the core of my problem. Thanks anyway!

Think more along the lines of someone who isn't exactly "discovering" the world but is gaining experience and knowledge of the world around them. They aren't morons just people who are still trying to master fine motor skills, communication, problem solving. You know they have a strong grasp of the basics but are still a long way off. The hardest part is not trying to avoid being a moron but trying to avoid putting an adult in a childs body. I hoped this help. As for Medeival Child care, I imagine bad. Very, Very, Bad.

Think you are smarter than everybody else, nobody is as great as you, but in all reality you are small, weak, awkward, and uncomfortable in all situations until you actually do well at something and then return to being a 'God'. You are above all others but still stupid, small, weak and awkward but now you're mouthy about being great.

Hmmm. You could write the narrative like you'd do with adults, but yes, that would seem odd. Why not write it like Alice in Wonderland? Short sentences, simple words, and constant curiosity.
