I just hope they won't give them overpowered things for no particular reason just to nerf them later, like they did with the Byzantine empire. I have no problem with making Norses playable, but this game should stay "realistic" in intent, in my opinion.

I would have preffered if they had make something about European christians, the HRE, Russia, Spain, the Holy Orders or about how diplomacy, CA and laws or AI works.

Tbh thats exactly how I would name a pagan DLC for my game, regardless of content. Vikings and their norse gods are catchy, grab attention, reminds you of horned helmets, etc. You gotta remember the average joe just checking the new releases on steam, and he's gonna be confused as heck if he sees something called "Strenght of The Suomenusko" while with "Rage Of Odin" you might as well just write "VIKINGS, PILLAGINNG, GRAB IT NOW!!" in the description in order to get more than a few casual impulse buys right there.
I was thinking more in lines of "Wrath of the Old Gods" or something.
But true, vikings are catchy.

Just not too much Odin.
Norse paganism was just about dead in 1066 whereas Finnish paganism for example would survive centuries. Not to mention Tengrism.

In the recent Q&A (reddit? I think), when Paradox CEO Fred Wester was asked about a "dark ages" dlc, he said (if I remember correctly) "why not just extend the CK2 timeline back by a hundred or so years?". I therefore think we'll see pagan Sweden, Norway and Denmark in the expansion, providing plenty of Asatru lords.

As the current game starts in 1066, and Hungary's Stephen I forced through laws promulgating and giving favored status to Christianity in the early 11th century, going back 100 years would mean an openly pagan Hungary, though receptive to an extent to both Roman Catholicism and Greek Orthodoxy.

Why not? A lot have titles have history going back past that already. How much more research would it be?

Many! Search history for the Counts in germany is very hard. Especial the counts or gaus before 1000 are not hereditary. So you have the Bishops, the Stem Duchies and the Kings/Emperors. Wow. And I have say it... The game before this time are allways not very hereditary. The most titles are give from the Ruler. So it wouldn't very dynastic... And CKII without dynasties?! For my mod I search some character histories... And still there I have some problems. For some peoples there are many theories how they are connected. Is A the father of B who is the spouse of C? Or is A the spouse of B and C his son? Some thinks like this are very common if you go farter back.

Knowing Paradox and its habit to favour scandinavian nations and their history, I bet it will be absolutely unbalanced, ahistorical and Total War-esque. Even a lot of events of Legacy of Rome were about the Varangian Guards and how its MIGHTY NORSE WARRIORS OF DOOM used to kick asses.

It will be awesome to crush the Aztecs with full paganised Vikings, raid Rome, embarrassing the HRE by raiding his lands and show the Pirates of Marroko and Algeria whos the real Havoc of the seas. :)

No. Think about it. Naval overhaul and a previously unplayable faction?

Vikings confirmed for next DLC.

It's just a sad thing that they keep on doing those "hollywoodian" DLCs when important areas of the game are still neglected.

Also, if they will expand the timeline backwards, I bet they will focus mostly on Scandinavia, leaving the rest of Europe in a more unpolished state.

Yes, how dare they flesh out portions of the game which can't even be played yet! Curse you, Paradox! You should be working on something important, not something stupid and unrealistic like PLAYABLE PAGANS!
