Wow, this "game" is a sham.

Hmm let me think.

Master of Orion 2 - Stellars: Moo2 had no game breaking bugs. So...

Call of Duty Modern Warfare - Black Ops: They recently re released the first modern warfare to many pleased fans who have been asking for the old gameplay and higher quality of the past game.

Baldurs Gate - Pillars of Eternity: Baldurs Gate was pretty much a great game and balanced out of the box. You didn't "need" a patch to play it there were no bugs like infinite duration insent plague.

Old MMORPGs vs Current: Old games were almost all open world. New games are not only freemium but they are highly restrictive mostly. When in UO you could build a house.

Dawn of War 1 vs Dawn of War 2: need not say any more

Not just FPS maps then vs now. But Level Design in Baldurs Gate vs Mass Effect.

2528790-fpsmapdesign.jpg

I can post pretty much an essay on how you are wrong but I won't go further.

Sure there were some shit games in the past but nobody cared about them. All the good titles that people remember were mostly clean release games without nickle and dime DLC patches.

Vampire Bloodlines and Temple of Elemental Evil from Troika more or less match Stellaris at release.

This game is a throwback to the EU3 release. Not good by any reasoning.

Dude, no.... I have had all of those games when they were launched. Bug Free? Only if you have the lenses of nostalgia on. I had MoO 2 on release. It had PLENTY of bugs, some gamebreaking.

Stop.... Don't be disingenuous.

Stellaris feels like a 20€ game to me. Not a bad thing per se, there are a lot of great games on Steam for that price.
It just lacks the production values to justify its current price of 40€.
For the first time with Paradox I feel I paid too much for a game.

isthereanydeal.com is your friend. I actually bought it for 20€ :)

I'm 100% certain that Dawn of War: Dark Crusade didn't even launch for me until 3 patches in (and it's one of the best strategy games of all time), and I can definitely remember all kinds of bugs with regards to the monsters in MoO2.

99 hours in Stellaris 1.0. So, despite all of its problems, it must be doing something right to keep my attention when there's so many other games that could have taken up all those hours instead.

I'm actually gonna be a little sad once I'm off medical leave.

Let me tell you the #1 law of business, its deepest truth:

THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. (Not "the fanbois", the CUSTOMERS).

The customers are unhappy right now. This *PROVES* that the product is not satisfactory.

"The customers"? Who exactly are you talking about? 89% of steam reviews are positive, the vast majority of people haven't said a word of complaint.

"The customer is always right" is mostly just a saying instructing employees to do anything they can to placate a complaining customer so they don't kick up a fuss.

You can "get your money's worth" out of a Ford Pinto as well. Would it have been a good car? No.

I am pretty much already bored of this game and have moved on. My typical 4X gaming lasts months. So I didn't get my money's worth. At all.

You need to think in context.

If you are saying simply that the game didn't hold your interest, fine, fair enough.

What you cannot fairly say is that therefore the game is bad, objectively, which is what this thread is full of.

I have stopped playing at least until the first patch. With the AI not working fully, I see no point. If the patch will be out by the weekend, I'll give it another go. This annoys me, because I have paid for it, yet in its present state it would just be a waste of time... for me.

"The customers"? Who exactly are you talking about? 89% of steam reviews are positive, the vast majority of people haven't said a word of complaint.

"The customer is always right" is mostly just a saying instructing employees to do anything they can to placate a complaining customer so they don't kick up a fuss.

"The customer is always right" things always makes me laugh. Back when I was studying at uni I worked as a waiter and one customer threatened to sue me because the food wasn't hot enough. I explained to him that I had recorded the temperature of the food (as we were legally required to do) and that while I'd be happy to reheat the food for him there was no question that the food was hot enough. He just went along ranting about how "the customer is always right" and "how dare you question me? I'm the customer here". At one point one of his guests said that he would swap meals with him (they had the same meal and it was the same temperature) just because he was so mortified at how embarrassing his friend was being. The man complaining swapped his meal, and despite the fact that the meals had been served at the same time onto identically heated plates he stated that his friends meal was a much more reasonable temperature.

All of this is to say that the customer is not always right, you just have to grit your teeth and tell them that they are. Not out of respect or friendliness, but simply because it's easier that way.

I agree with deathknight15.
But unless you are a blind TV drone you will know the term, "the customer is always right", is the Vaseline of the business world.
Also be aware some customers are not even worth the trouble of opening the lid and gently bending em over. If you don't like how things don't get done right that second like on TV then you need to go elsewhere.

Moo2 had no game breaking bugs.

There was no "can't eliminate the pretheon swarm" equivalent bug. I could play MOO2 without the internet and have fun without issues. And I did.

I cannot do that with stellaris.

Try harder.

Odd to quote the same passage twice, but

http://www.masteroforion2.com/bugs.htm

2 bugs that cause crashing, and still a few exploits as of version 1.31

Antaran Bug

Game will crash if the Antarans win a battle.

Wow, sounds almost like a "Can't eliminate the Prothean Scourge" bug now doesn't it? The end game baddies can't win a fight or the game crashes....

Lol. Then again like I said, I own the game and have for a long time. I already knew this but that list tells it all.

Well I've just read the review in Quarter to 3 by Tom Chicks and although I agree there are a lot of issues about this game and people have every right to complain about a product they've paid for and people complain on forums it's normal and I hate sectors and borders ( But borders are just my dislike just me if you like ) Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut buuuut and buuut again I have to congratulate Tom Hicks HE HAS BEATEN ME I have been beaten, I was the dullest miserable person in the universe who used to look down on life with doom and gloom had a low outtake on things but not now, that has to be the dullest review ever, god the reviewer was miserable! He hardly gave any praise at all just tore the game to pieces. Like I said the start is very good sectors and mid game are bad but at least I'm no longer the most miserable dullest person in the universe thanks Tom Chicks. ( He is )

And this dubious restauranteur anecdote demonstrates that Stellaris isn't an unfinished buggy mess how?

Just because there wasn't a bug in the soup then does nothing to prove there isn't a bug in the game now.

Did you read your own quote of their post?

Nowhere did they address the state of the Stellaris game, they were merely commenting on the saying that came up in the conversation.

People are still feeding the troll?

I'm enjoying every bit of the game.
Yes, it has problems and a lot of room to grow, but it WILL grow.

I would give a lot of reasons to stop with this whining and trust in Paradox work to turn this great game even better, for no additional costs, but it will be useless.

People like this OP are like "hur dur dis gaem is sahm an 4eva will b".

I see no reason for people to keep feeding this useless post. Don't waste your arguments in this sad hole.

Good night.

Did you read your own quote of their post?
Nowhere did they address the state of the Stellaris game, they were merely commenting on the saying that came up in the conversation.
Pen's anecdote does nothing to demonstrate that the saying is not applicable in the context of the thread, which has the topic "This game is a sham".
Damned if I'm gonna get called out for bringing the divarication back to the matter at hand.

But this is not good enough.
I didn't pay good money today (well, last month) for "A game that will become great after 2 years of growth and patching", and it is disingenuous of you to characterise people as 'whiner trolls' for having the temerity to expect that a released product would be at of a certain basic quality.

My Sega Genesis games never needed 2 years of patching. I don't quite understand how we have regressed in QC technology over the past 25 years, and I understand even less why some people seem to be defending the slide.
