Wow, the world hates me!

Hi!

I'm playing as Byzantium in the eep using vp 1.5 patch.
Anyways...I've gotten all my cb shields in asia minor and the balkans except Albania. I'm still Orthodox.
My prob is that almost the entire catholic world hates me...not to speak of the muslim world
I've only force annexed one muslim nation. My rep is tarnished at the moment, but I don't understand why I am so hated?
I mean...it won't be very fun to play this game if I'll be unable to join alliances and stuff. Is this the usual path for orthodox countries?

I think state gifts are a necessity, and Catholics seem to tolerate you less if your religious tolerance slider is close to zero for Catholics.

I've only played as Muscowy/Russia, but I wasn't exactly Flavour of The Month amongst the Western Christian community.

How have you set your religion sliders thru out the game?
They will have a big effect on your relations, BB does not help either.

however sometimes it seems as if those sliders were totaly irrelevant

I f you have declared war against many countries you will the whole world will hate you, because they can't know if its their turn to be attacked next time...

Well.for a long time my rel. slider was 100%orthodox, 50%catholic and 0 moslim. This only changes when I'm waging war and need to keep the newly won (moslem) provinces in line.
I made war against the pope once also, does that give me larger bb than declaring was on an other jon doe country?
When protestantism comes, should I max out on orthodox and catholic then?
Because it is a little less fun when you're out in the cold

Well fighting the Papal states will give all Catholics a CB on you which definately hurts your relations.

That is the case. The Papal States are also incredibly expensive to convert... (I'm playing Granada and trying to create a moslem pope...)

The BB from annexing coupled with only 50% tolerance and annexing of Catholic nations will decrease relations over time. And the Muslims hate you because of the 0% tolerance, of course.
