This is one of the most engrossing, deep, and fantastic titles Paradox has released to date. I have no idea what the hell I am doing most of the time.

So the Duke of Leinster and Meath dies, and due to the stupid inheritance laws in place, the dutchies get divided between his sons. Well, the one I was left with didn't like that obviously, having his holdings split in half, so this 8 year old boy hatches and executes a plan to kill his brother who is only a baby.

I felt dirty, but I got my land back, and eventually formed the Kingdom of Ireland, though I was known as a kinslayer and constantly had to deal with rebellious vassals. Well, so the kinslaying king is dead and his heir becomes a Grey Eminence, which is apparently someone who is an amazing statesman. I control all of Ireland now and I find it fascinating to just sit back and watch the various intrigues between my vassals, fighting each other for this title or that. I figure they can use the experience for when we begin the invasion of Scotland.

This is one of the most amazing games I have ever played.

It somewhat loses the magic once you've figured it all out though. D:

Agree with amazing, got a game going as Savoie and its only 1186 and this is what happened so far :)

-Wife who is ruler of Toscana died in jail after her failed try to become independent :)
-Son became ruler of Toscana and he made his brother one of his vassal and now that brother is trying to take control of Toscana in a war :)
-Add to this that both are also fighting wars against vassals that want to be independent from them and its crazy :)

I am just having fun watching my family fight it out for power :)

I can only jump on the bandwagon and agree with how awesome the game is and how intriguing the life of your characters can become.

I'm playing my first game now, and so far my character has styled himself as a true Henry VIII "avant-la-lettre" (with a little bit of help from yours truly of course) but without that pesky inability to produce an heir.

In 1066 Brian is an eligible bachelor of 18 years old. Thus, his father, the Duke of Munster marries him to the 20 year old German Princess Adelheid Salian.
The marriage between the chaste Adelheid and the more lustful Brian isn't exactly a match made in heaving, but nonetheless the couple is graced with two children. A boy and a girl.

At age 35, Brian inherits his father's meagre possessions. One ducal title, one county and two unruly vassals. By this time Duke Brian has also lost all remaining interest in his prudish and ever-aging wife. Brian remains a faithful husband, but no more children are born. Finding nothing to ravish in his marital bed, Duke Brian chooses to ravish the Irish countryside. And does so with success. In the following years he adds two ducal titles and several counties to his realm.

However, every time Duke Brian returns to his household, he finds his wife increasingly grey, old and bitter. Still, Duke Brian remains true to his marital vows for many years.
That is, until he has reached the ripe old age of 50. His wife now a wrinkled crone, Duke Brian decided this is no way to spend the twilight of his years and starts plotting to kill his wife. Yet Princess Adelheid is quite popular and when first seeking a co-conspirator, Duke Brian finds himself alone. Though fortunately, after some gold has found its way into the pocket of his spymaster, the Duke's plot can come to fruition.

Shortly after, the courtiers see the Duke mourning the passing of his wife. All of them convinced, she was the victim of a tragic and most unfortunate accident.

To ease his pain, the Duke finds himself a new wife. A 16 year old Spanish princess. with whom the Duke rediscovers his own youth. In the next eight years, the Duke sires four children with his Spanish Princess. Finding just enough time in between to squash a few rebellions and conquer a fourth dukedom. Unfortunately, in the ninth year of their marriage the young princess falls ill and passes away.

This time, the grief for the loss of his second wife is very real. He finds comfort in the kind arms of his half-brother's widow, who also happens to be a Princess of Denmark and happens to have claims on the thrones of both Denmark and England. Thus she is soon known far and wide as Duke Brian's third bride. However, despite the marriage being politically interesting, the Duke doesn't care much for his new spouse. After all, she is only 22 years younger and her cold Scandinavian heart, cannot warm the Duke.

Instead, the Duke once again seeks some southern warmth. Finding it in the bed of the 26 year old Agnese Montferrato, the daughter of an Italian baron. Despite some minor objections from the young lady's husband, the Duke's cousin, the love between Agnese and the Duke flourished. Resulting in the Duke's seventh child, a beautiful daughter. A bastard, of course, but quickly legitimized, and just in time to see her father, the Duke being crowned King of Ireland.

Now the man once known as just "Brian" is King Brian I "the Careless" of Ireland. He is 71 years old and he is having one hell of a life!

Watching family and vassals squabble and tear out each others' hair *is* fun...

I just wish they wouldn't do it to *me* when I'm in the middle of seizing England in the Norman Conquest (as Norway)! There's laws I want to change and I wish I could go and personally knock the s*** out of all of them so I could concentrate on the task at hand. Can't they wait until I'm finished?! >.<

But I agree. I've been looking forward to this for months and months, and it's not disappointing. It's like a great Gothic cathedral...beautiful, elaborate, graceful...not to mention too complex and towering too far over my head to fully understand.

I love it. :)
