Does that really make sense for this period though? I mean the Empire did still have the cohesion to go marching on from the period at this point.

All Imperial regions were romanised at this point,I may make the Germanic regions germanic in culture, the same for the Dacians. Though they will be Dacian, not Germanic.

I would without a doubt. I would love to play any Roman mod.

Would it be one large independent realm with a bunch of dukes under the emperor?

Yup,the dukes will reflect the governors.

For the love of god, yes, this sounds amazing!

A recommendation, do not make the roman empire territories de jure to the roman empire.

Make the de jure map more or less a cultural map, where duchies and kingdoms aren't yet established in many places.

So that if say, a county were to declare independence and wins, they weren't de jure in the first place, no duchy claims, no de jure kingdom to say "hey, I own you!"

Cause lets face it the only reason they were in the empire was because of conquest, not by choice.

Might make the claims system only apply to those of the same culture group, and give everyone the invasion casus belli against different culture groups.

The idea being that gallic cultures are diplomatic to other gallic cultures (maybe) but not towards roman, germanic, goth, persian, or nomadic cultures.

So to be more ancient and less middle-agy, do away with most duchies, and kingdoms, and only have them around the hearts of the estabilished empires at the time.

The result would be that the few kingdoms and empires would have small de jure area claims, but initially occupy a sea of counties around them. But if county were to break free successfully, no de jure claim.

Of course something like this would need to allow characters to create kingdoms after acquiring a significant amount of counties (6 maybe?), and then an empire if they have an even more significant amount of counties under themselves and their vassal counts (40 maybe?).

I just feel that the current every county being in a de jure duchy, and every duchy in a de jure kingdom, just doesn't fit in with the times.

Just something to think about~ I'd like to help you if I can. I have some trigger experience and nothing else, mostly making personal mods.

I'll keep that in mind, but everywhere was pretty Roman in culture by this point and it was never really a problem about the peasants revolting,it was usually just people wanting the throne.

And to be honest mate, you probably have more modding experience than me. This is my first mod and all I've done before this is change duchy boundaries and names etc.
I'm so inexperienced that I don't even know what you mean when you say trigger experience.
edit:I just realised how dreadfully rude I sounded then. Any and all help is extremely welcome and yours is no exception :D

edit2:Good news I have....accidentally...put the duchies of thrace and italia into the latin empire! Now to turn it into a monarchy from a theocracy...

I would totally play a mod like this it looks awesome.

Cheers man.

Well this evening I have been putting all those counties into those duchies for 260 and all those duchies into the 'imperium romanum' so far I've done Italia,Noricum,Dacia,Moesia superior/inferior,macedonia,achaia,thrace,epirus,dalmatia and segusio which is now called alpes segusio. Historically this tiny section was three provinces but to make them 3 ingame would just leave the empire with three tiny duchies.

Oh and in answer to the Illyricum issue. I have found no maps that suggest the whole of Illyricum was considered a province. As such I have decided it is only a region and will have no place in the game. I have also realised a few issues with the boundaries of Noricum. At some point I will address this which will allow me to squeeze in Pannonia.

Will the emperor get to appoint the "dukes" or will they be inherited?

I'll be using an elective monarchy system so that all the counts can appoint their dukes upon their deaths. Counties will be inherited because I don't think you can make them elective. However I do intend to lower the opinion penalty of title revocations, will probably make it -10 for the revoked character whilst other characters won't care.

@Joel I will eventually be (hopefully) making different launch scenario's. The primary (initial release) will take part in 260 as the Macriani rebellion begins and Postumus rebels. The Macriani rebellion will simply be a normal rebellion but with all of Syria and Asia allied to the Macriani, apart from Palmyra. The Gallic empire however will start out as a separate empire entirely as this is the only way to reflect the empire without giving Postumus a helluva lot of duchies. There will be a war with the Gallic empire at the start but only a war for segusio. Each side will have a claim on each other. Oh and the Gallic empire will have all of Gaul,Hispania,Brittania and Germania.

Quick update.

Just put the Gallic empire in. Currently the Imperium Romanum holds all of italy and greece, dacia and the bits inbetween. Gallic empire holds aquitania and lugdunensis. But they aren't finished.
