In all the others hearts of iron we have AA in a province. In the first and third we don't use manpower... So the cannons fire alone...

In the two they cost manpower but in occupied zones they work at same without we using manpower...

And finally, when I have AA brigades the damm AA could have planes in the sky of that province but they don't attack the planes.

We have something that change this in HOI4 ???

Thanks

i honestly never build them in game as i never noticed them doing anything i hope in 4 that is not the case

Well strategic bombing should be more effective this time because damaged factories have to be repaired by civilian factories. So you would put a lot of AA in your industrial areas along with interceptors and such.

I don't think we really know about provincial AA yet. There hasn't been a dev diary and it never got built in any of the WWW streams (with the exception of some from the UK's National Focuses). It does somewhat look like it won't take manpower to build, as it's built from the same place as factories and forts (which don't need manpower to build), but I could be wrong.

Planes fly too high when they travel to their target for anti-aircraft being effective against them. They fly out of AA range for an reason. Divisional anti-aircraft is only really effective at defending from planes doing strafing runs or dive bombing runs. Provincial AA, which is usualy higher caliber and higher range still cant effectively attack bombers that are traveling over them, since they usualy fly out of their reach to their target aswell. They are only really effective when the bombers actually attack, which they usualy do at an lower altitute to increase the cahnce of atleast some bombs maybe hitting their target.

Thats why you have interceptors, to intercept the enemy before it reaches its target. AA is the last line of defense against aircraft.

Podcat said that it will work similar to HoI III, where AA only really protects the attacked state because of the reason above, which is an "real AA system". Change they did are, that if bombers are intercepted they get distrupted, which lowers their efficiency when bombing their target and that anti-aircraft now is on an state level and not on an provincial level. Forts are the only provincial improvement you can build, while everything else is moved to the state level.

Germany AA and Tank AA had been the only weapons used. Provincial AA and Brigade AA had been done with the same AA model.

Yup, waste of IC in HOI3 as far as I'm concerned. May as well just build interceptors and/or multiroles. Talking about provincial AA

For Brigade AA I would build a few of them to stick into some garrison units, and MAYBE the occasional Armored Division. The Brigade AA is so cheap IC wise they are good for building up the thing that makes building Artillery cheaper. I forget whats its called. *edit* Also I think building motor-aa makes motors divisions cheaper.

But I've never done testing to see if having Brigade AA in a division actually does help protect it from aerial bombing. To me bombing against units in HOI3 is relatively ineffective except turning the tide in very evenly matched fights. Infrastructure bombing is really OP if you know where to hit ;)

I tried AA units when I played Italy in a multi player around when Semper Fi first came out and they did absolutely nothing except die fast.

I micromanage my play and follow all engagements. I certainly noticed my ground attack aircraft taking greater losses in strength and organisation when they attacked units with AA elements. The losses were very significant if I made the mistake of bombing large stacks of units containing many AA units while they were bordering on insignificant bombing large stacks of units without AA units. AA units in HOI 3 did make a difference for me.

For me I have always wished that AA in provinces that units passed over had an effect on aircraft flying over, in reality AA was often on approaches to targets, in the uk we had a kind of coastal shell particularly when the doodlebugs started coming over. It would be nice if a little damage was caused when AA is overflown even if the province is not the target, would make pathing to targets a useful thing to include as well.
