Would my spy master ever lie to me?

I just had a run of supicious circumstances in a game playing as the Duke of toulouse.

I had a happy family, a beautiful wife. 4 lovely children, 2 boys and 2 girls. My wife died, did not seem strange, she was 45 or something. But i was a bit paranoid about assasinations. So i decided to look for a new wife with high intrigue. I found one in italy and she came to toulouse and i made her my spy master.

She then had a son with me, and then everything started to go haywire. My eldest son and heir was assinated. But we did not know who did it, my second born son who i had had with my first wife then became heir. My second wifethen became pregnant again. Giving birth to two twin boys. The oldest son that i had with her was then killed. She told me that my second son and heir was responsile, i had him arrested and beheaded. Since i suspected him of killing two of my other sons.

So now all my original sons are dead... and my new wife with massive intrigue now has two sons who will rule Toulouse.


So could it be that she came to toulose, assinated my first son. Then kiled her own first born and framed it on my second son? Am i right to be paranoid that ai characters could be so devious?

Edit: And i should add that soon after her twins succesion was assured, the duke died under suspicious circumstances. Leaving her as regent for a good 15 years...

I am not sure about her saying that someone else was responsible, but it seems very likely that she killed your first son. If your spymaster plots against you, you have no way of knowing.

Any maybe my second son sensed this and was trying to remove her sons to secure the succesion for himself. And i beheaded him doing her dirty work for her

Well, actually you can be notified about your spymasters plot by luck.

Anyway, it does seem very likely that your wife muredered your heir in order for her son to become duke.

That's an awesome story, I wish characters plotted like this more often with varying degrees of success. If only characters had more intrigue options...

It's too bad you lost your eldest sons, but on the bright side, it sounds like you've got a highly-devious regent on the throne. May she serve you as well as she served herself.

I say if this is your initial suspicion then go with it! Who cares if it's done with purpose by the AI or not, you've just got an incredible and intriguing story to tell.

Yeah shes positively amazing in that regard. When the eldest of the two twins ascended to the throne of Toulouse, I married him to the single duchess of Normandy. After they had had a son, the two of them had falling out.

My evil spy master mother caught wind of a plot to kill me made by the duchess of normandy. I just had to say the word and the duchess of normandy was dead. Now my son and Heir is ruler of normandy
