Would it be practical to add post-war/Cold War content to the game?

If they do a Cold War game, there's a lot of interesting questions to be raised about when it should start and when it should end. I'm of the opinion that a 1946/1948 start would be good and I think 2000/2001 would make for a good end date. The devs would also need to provide incentives to play as Third World countries like India or Yugoslavia, or countries that neither adhered to liberal democracy nor communism like Spain. To that end, I think the potential for a multipolar Cold War would be incredibly fun to play out. But let's have them make the game first!

As far as HOI4 goes, I've sort of realized that it's much more a game about 1936-1939 than it is a game about WWII, for better or worse.

But certain conflicts that occurred in the early 50s or 60s, such as the decolonization wars, could represent in some way in HOI IV, and being a sanbdox, they could occur in the period of the game and also certainTechnologies from the late 40s like the first helicopters, I think it will be feasible to introduce them to the game

There is decolonization in HOI4, if you count the British focus tree, and the focus trees of other Commonwealth countries. Maybe not exactly as it panned out in the 50s, but its there.

For helicopters, it would be neat, but you have to ask: how would it enhance the game especially so late in the tech tree? What would they do? There are already jet fighters/bombers that get limited action, unless your war extends well into the 40s (most games don't make it that long).

For helicopters, ... so late in the tech tree? What would they do?

Shore based naval reconnaissance.
Artillery or Naval gunfire spotting.
Carry wounded (abstract in increased effectiveness of the field hospital).

Some of the proposed larger versions would be able to do anti-submarine warfare and even carry small number of troops (ie air assaults).

I was referring to conflicts, the Indochina war, or the rebellions for independence to get rid of colonial control and seek independence from these countries

I think helicopters to perfectly insert inside the technology could be added what they have called wunderwaffen projects and that would be a passive technology that increases the mobility and recognition of the so-called forcesspecials en particular.

It would be nice if there was some way to provide meaning after the peace conferences towards a "cold war" among the victors that have proved to be fair weather friends. But the reality is that this is a World War II era game and they will never have time for World War 1 or the Cold War or New Order scenarios. There are mods to that effect. Plus a lot of people just quit after Germany vs USSR has been decided. Things still get kind of rediculously railroaded a little bit (if the Axis gets the Dutch Indies...Japan destroys the peace... same for many war focuses that no longer make sense after rewriting the map.)

There still aren't many focuses for dealing with how to handle the victory. Or handle the victors if they contest for the same areas.

I think honestly they'd get further with a World War I scenario than the Cold War because so much of that earlier era is already in the game. In fact sometimes I think this should be a World War I game just because of the front systems, the fortifications, and the infantry focus of the game (humans build tanks, AI builds walls of infantry and artillery).

Plus as someone said, the Cold War requires a lot of different systems. Plus its not really a fair fight if war breaks out. The USSR had a huge numbers and logistical advantage, depending on who you ask they could have rolled from Berlin to Paris in weeks, not months.

You'd have to make an entirely different game if you wanted to simulate a cold war, but since the engine is made with a world war in mind I feel like WW3 would be a far easier project.

Mh, i remember that on the Devs roadmap there was something along the lines of "better mechanics for demobalization after wars". Maybe something like this can lead to a longer peace. If a war has ended, you have a timer running to go into another war and when it runs out and you are still at peace you have to demobilize economy and military. These mechanics can be used to press defeated nations into having a smaller military as stated in Versailles. And ofc there should be something about motivating your population for more war.
