I conquered a Chinese coastal province next to Korea and it keeps getting attacked by Woukoo Pirates every couple of years. Is there a way to defeat them? I tried stationing a large fleet there, but it did not seem to help.

Fortify the coast (province decision), and eventually an event chain will happen which gives the possibility of killing the pirates (at least that's how it works for Korea, not sure if the same applies for colonial powers).

It has been fixed, but this happened after the 5.1 patch was released so that fix is not yet in the public arena.

The event is stupid BS anyway. The game already has frickin' pirates. If I have 30 Three-Deckers on the coast of China there is no way a bunch of Chinese peasants with boats are going to make 'sudden raids' on my coastline. I'd literally blow them out of the water. How are they stripping the provinces of valuables without facing THE GIGANTIC STANDING ARMIES IN EVERY PROVINCE? Stupid, stupid, stupid. I appreciate them trying to add some flavor to Asia, but this is a terrible implementation.

Raiders attack poorly defended places. They're no match for organized military force, and they know it. Pirates are criminals, not retards. They just flat out wouldn't attack a place with that many ships and men, especially of such a superior technology.

I, for one, vote that Paradox 'fix' this event by removing the magical ghost pirates in favor of actual pirates that relate to game mechanics.

The Woukou were a bit like coastal Vikings in their tactics, and I can tell you that while the Vikings were happy to attack England back in the 10th century there's no way in Hell they'd try raiding it in the 15th century when it has dozens of ships-of-the-line. That would be suicide. Instead pirates focused on areas where there wasn't a huge concentration of ships, like the colonies and shipping lanes.

This is a freaking nightmare, I was playing Japan when I conquered Korea, then I started getting this pirate raids, after some search, I managed to modify the Korea events to fight this pirates, to also include Japan in them, for a while this worked for my provinces in Korea and Manchu, but then when i started conquering China coastel provinces it came back and the events did nothing!
I guess each nation with these events (Ming, Manchu, Korea) can only fight this pirates from their own interests and lands, not from neighbouring lands, that must be why my event only prevents attacks to Korea and close by lands, but not China.
This is kinda dumb, Wokou pirates were initialy japonese pirates after all, and as a mighty japan Empire I cant do anything about it, not even with by huge navy, and the fortify coastal provinces decisions do nothing!
I even found myself foolishling trying to find this 'Wokou' province or nation to destroy it, just to findout that such land does not exist ingame :(

Yep, the event is bugged and stupid to boot. It makes absolutely no sense that the event takes no notice and can not be combatted even if you have an enormous navy. I recommend the fix of deleting it.
