The problem might be that he does maybe not even have a release date yet. I think that they have a month(or at least a "Qx") when they want to finish but I don't think that they themselves know the exact date yet.

Well they did confirm in the AMA that they plan to release this year, and I'm pretty sure Paradox doesn't do Q4 releases. Q1 has already effectively passed, and they stated they require at least a minimum of 3 months to complete beta (which they entered on February 4th). This means the earliest release date we can expect is May (since you have to count April as one of those three months). Which is mid Q2. However, that's also assuming Beta testing and selecting the release candidate version goes perfectly, which let's not get our hopes up.

Taking all of that into account, a mid Q2 release is being optimistic, an early Q3 release seems most realistic, and a late Q3 release is being pessimistic.

My bet is on mid Q3, Q2 is probably when Stellaris is released.

As a shrewd and seasoned "campaigner", Johan probably makes it a point to regularly lure unsuspecting optimistic individuals to get him drunk in hopes of plying him for information, which pays a sizable percentage of his travel expenses, and without revealing anything about what he's working on.
