I've seen CK 2 on sale at steam for a pittance several times. The one thing I will say in CK 1's favor is that it was a far more difficult and unforgiving game, which is a plus for some players.

It was also very easy to exploit if you knew the tricks. Title claiming in it was totally overpowered. I still liked it as I didn't use that feature and it made the games much more interesting.

For what I hear the first game was quite unstable and just generally not nearly as polished as CK2. It didn't aged very well, I say.
Incidentally, CK2 Dwarf Fortress DLC where the Ilkhanate is made of dwarves and the Golden Horde is elephants. Make it happen Paradox.

CK1 was great game (even with all it's flaws) during it's time, I probably sank close to 800 hours into it but it hasn't aged that well. Compared to CK2 it feels so plain, unbalanced and unpolished. I just can't make myself to play CK1 anymore after playing CK2. CK2 isn't perfect but it's so many ways superior to CK1. Oh and CK1's multiplayer was close to unplayable for me. When the wars started players started to crash like mad.

Might be just a Steam thing, but there's a "CKII Collection", which during the last sale not only didn't get reduced (and therefor was much more expensive than buying DLC separately), it also doesn't include SoI or LoR... =)
Yes, but Collection is not a synonym of Complete.
