I am currently waiting for a combined version of CKII with all the expansions, patches and DLC´s and am wondering if it is worth it to buy CK I in the meantime? Or should I simply wait, or even buy the game now?

If i understand well, Paradox is not planning to launch a Complete edition. Because after the complete edition of EU3, they launched another 2 patches.
Also, i have read on the forum that CK2 is really the improved version of CK1 (i don't own it myself).

So, i think best is just to buy CK2 now if you want to play the game, and buy the dlc's you really want. (But the most features are imbedded in the free patches)

CK1 is horribly quirky, and CK2 is so much more polished and accessible. And if you are used to the interfaces of the current generation of Paradox games CK might just be too different.

I'd recommend buying CK2 now (or wait for a sale on Steam or elsewhere if you like and can access the download stores and want to limit expenses), because it also looks like you might have to wait a few years until Paradox finishes developing CK2.

I never played CK1, but I did my some research before buying 2. CK2 really does seem to mostly be a better more stable version of the base game. Why get the lesser when the greater is available?
One day they may release a CK pack, but that day is a ways off, like 1-2+ years off. So why wait when its already here? CK2 is a great game that has entertained me for over 100 hours and counting.

They will certainly never again release anything called Complete, or any synonym of that. But they may well release a roll-up of any given game plus expansions DLC etc.

That said, in the new digital download-only world, who cares. On Steam for instance you can buy each DLC or not as you wish and they will all install as a bundle anyway.

CK1 is, what you would call a prototype, if it was a product of technical production. It isn't that playable as CK2 is, valued by the standards of 2012. The lower graphic isn't that central, it is more the gameplay, that can't compare to its successor. You won't have matrilineal marriages, you won't have the imprison ability, you will have another building system in holdings. You will have no barons or local majors. Muslims aren't playable, of course etc. etc. It isn't a bad game, though - I played it alot of times.

CK1 isn't that expensive, so you might buy it, if you want to know the current games origins.

I've played CK1 for a bit, and Ck2 is just superior.
Even if you use the DVIP mod for CK1, the current major overhaul mods for CK2 are still better.

Essentially, CK2 has a larger map, an inter-person relationship system which makes more sense, and is essentially more polished in all aspects. Still, ck1 is there for nostalgia, and some may prefer it to the current anyway.

I never played CK1, HOI 1, or EU 1 or 2, but I was able to pretty seamlessly jump in to CK2, HOI 2, and EU 3.

Older versions are prequels, they have no necessary plot elements. they're just older versions of the same game with less functionality.

Crusader Kings 1 was one of my favorite games...and that stayed true until CK2 came out. CK2 is 2 times better, at least. Don't deprive yourself any longer, this game is great if you are at all into character-centric nation building. You will have a blast. Sure you may have to pay a little more now, but, if you're anything like me you won't regret it, plus that money you spend will go into helping Paradox to expand on it and refine even more, a win for everyone. ;)

EDIT: I saw you had Sengoku, if you liked that game, you will like CK2. It is similar in some ways, only, in my opinion, CK2 is much more varied and interesting, and kept me coming back for more. I'll just say this, once CK2 came out, I never went back to playing either Sengoku or CK1. And I don't regret it.

CK1 was a brilliant game with a few quirks. With CK2 Paradox have taken all the brilliant bits from CK1 and made them better. Don't bother with CK1 now and don't wait any more for CK2.

The only things I can think of that are supirior in CK1 is that it has a friends sections in the characters screen and the plague was far more dangerous since it almost always fired. I also think it had a second stage which I don't believe CKII has.

Skip Ck1 just buy Ck2. Don't worry about any of the DLC it is 100% optional. All game improvements are in free patches.

You can wait till amazon or steam has the dlc or game on sale.

I got ck2 for 9.99 at amazon and the sword of Islam dlc for 2.50 on steam.

CK1 is a lot less polished, less intuitive, and less forgiving. Stick with CK2. Not to mention that depending on what you want to get out of the game, CK1 is also a LOT less easy to mod and hence has less replay value.

I have EU3 complete. That means I'm missing two expansions!

Don't expect the 'complete' never to be touched again version of CK2, currently Paradox policy is to keep making DLC as long as there is demand, and fair to say, demand will only no longer be there when the game itself is dated.

There is no reason to play CK1.

It would seem so. There is a CK2 bundle on Gamers Gate, with any luck it will be updated to include the more current DLCs.

Maybe there will be a Black Friday sale on Steam or GG. There have been quite a few Paradox sales on GG the last couple weeks. I'm looking for Vicky to go on sale again, myself.

Might be just a Steam thing, but there's a "CKII Collection", which during the last sale not only didn't get reduced (and therefor was much more expensive than buying DLC separately), it also doesn't include SoI or LoR... =)
