Hmm...this brings me to this:

Game starts in 1945. Time goes backward. First player to un-research the techtree and places the units at the historical starting places and disbands the others first wins.
Call THAT a PARADOX game.

Sigh, spare us this silly purism! Simply adding another dimension to the map doesn't harm the game at all.

That reply is also simplistic. It assumes that the concepts of aesthetics and immersion have absolutely zero value. Before even bothering to reply that the third dimension improves these two things, keep in mind that it is all subjective (a matter of taste).

Game comes in 4 versions:
Hearts of Iron
Clubs of Iron
Spades of Iron
Diamonds of Iron
and features tradeable unique units only available in the proper version. Gotta catch 'em all?

My thoughts on bad ideas:

- Make it so that the easiest and cheapest way to produce a unit is to build a different one and upgrade it!
- Make fog an active weather effect that causes ships to run aground and fleets to end up no where near their destination
- Have pop ups from your generals and admirals telling you when they disagree with you. At times they will ridicule you, and after a loss constantly pop up and say "I told you so"
- There should be an "I told you so" button that you can hit in MP to remind other players of when you were "so smart", and they were "so wrong."
- There should be an element of quality control in factories. The player should be responsible for inspecting any and all goods produced in factories or quality will drop and units will become disgusted. See above (generals) for your troops reactions.
- MP should include custom taunts and bragging emoticons that you can buy from Paradox.
- MP should include 1 hour breaks every game month when all of the players on a side must meet to discuss the months strategy. If you aren't in an alliance yet, you sit out and stare at a black screen.
- No one will be allowed in game chat (voice or otherwise) to make fun of a team mate that loses because they set their entire army on AI. (happened once, seriously)
- Comes with a spread sheet in game.
- Other players on your team should be able to change your attack strategies in process if they disagree with them (OMG, this would be hilarious) This should only be allowed if the other player really believes that they are right.
- Make everyone name all of their aircraft. In MP there could be a pop up every air battle that shows which planes shot down which! (actually would be cool, the first time!)

The list could go on, and on, and on

Should be 'I informed you thusly' :)

Who gets the reference? :D

Wait a sec, those are some of the worst ideas from the real war, my mistake.

I always think the "worst" thing that is done for "new" versions of games is to change things just so they are different than the previous version. I think designers do this for various reasons: sometimes just to be different for the sake of being different, sometimes to justify the cost of a new title, sometimes it's just the devs saying "this is my baby and I'll do it like I want" I always thought this is the way it should be ... and so on and so on.

To make a really true improved game, the developers need to carefully examine the things that make the game good, keep those things, and change other things only to improve them or add things that enhance game play.

I have no problems with improving/enhancing things or adding new features, those things are typically good. I just hate to see a bunch of changes made just for the sake of change.
