Hi,

I'd like to know if people have considered that a wormhole can be used as a weapon :

Since we can open a wormhole in another star system to travel, why can't we open a wormhole on an enemy station / ship / fleet to destroy it.

I'm just suprised it's just seen as a mean to travel.

You mean like a cosmic vacuum cleaner? 'Cause I don't think Stellaris wormholes can do the 'portal appears right in the middle of something, bisecting it'-trick.

From what I understand, since the Devs have said "each SHIP can only be equipped with a single FTL type", the thing you are sending through a Wormhole needs a device on it. Or perhaps the device allows the Wormhole to be accurate, and they simple don't have the accuracy to be used as a weapon. Hitting halfway across the solar system from where you tried to attack.

'Ships that use wormhole stations experience instant travel between star systems and, as a plus, don't need to be equipped with any modules whatsoever.'

Since opening wormhole is quite easy to notice, enemy pilots would need "slow learners" trait for it to work.
- Hey, Stephan, something is happening to space-time around us. It's all distorted and stuff, as if some sort of black hole was being created around us.
- You think we should tell the commander ? Or move to somewhere else ?
- Nah, I'm sure it will be fine.

Yeah, it would take too much time to be effective against moving targets, plus I imagine that remote opening of a wormhole requires some sort of signal to lock on a precise location...your ships gladly provide it, but the enemy's won't.

And to prevent the idea of opening wormholes in the middle of a planet, causing all sort of havok, you can introduce a simple technobabble game-canon: wormholes cannot form when too near to an existing, reasonably strong gravitational field ;)

There are several weapon technologies in the game based on the disruption of space-time. Think phase disruptors, for example. Wormhole, warp and hyperlane technology is about using a stable manipulation of space-time for travel. The same principle is called by a different name depending on its use, but these different applications are grouped together for research purposes in e.g. the "field manipulation" category.

I could imagine a wormhole opening in a star or planet and sucking some stuff through... Would be interesting.

Also I would assume that ships would need special wormhole shielding to go through

Pretty sure wormholes are activated by a fleet attempting to move to another system (by wormhole stations in range) rather than just something the player activates where they want it. People asking if you can use your allies wormholes and such are missing the point, this isn't the kind of game you can start deploying and entering wormholes of your own volition, its just another means of travel for fleets.

Per the latest Blorg stream, to use a wormhole your ships need a wormhole modulator.

None of this precludes using it to deliver a bomb ship (crewed or uncrewed really doesn't matter at this scale, but let's assume uncrewed).

There may be limits as to where a wormhole can be placed, though. No good dropping a stationbuster bomb in the outer solar system...

Wouldn't that just transport the enemy station/ship/fleet to the other side of the wormhole?

It could also be used as a defensive weapon. If a hostile fleet warps into your home system, open up a wormhole under them and send them back home!
