Great modding, and love the spread of ComIntern. Now you just have to liberate the Rhineland, and deal with the traitors to the south!

Thanks all. The event line was a modded thing, made for the now cancelled worldwide communism mod (I was forced to abandon it due to health problems).
The events over the threat of war was set up so there were two identical event lines, one where the accident was just that, and another where the accident was an act of war. I didn't know which one had fired until the 20th of December. This meant that I really did have to deploy newly built divisions ready for a counter attack, and I really didn't know what was going on.

Great AAR so far!

The thought of Austria annexing a german state is a most pleasing one for any Austrian on this board,i guess :D After that, maybe an preemptive strike against the Republic with Italian forces, but I don't think the AI would be capable of that. What do the relations between Axis and Allies look like? Could France be persuaded to join forces with the Axis? French leaders sure wouldn't like to see the old menace rise once again.Maybe they could split with the UK over that issue, make them go renegade.Of course,Mother Russia would come to the rescue, there are just a few Poles between the two Comintern countries...

Thanks Fapu.

Poles and Czech's... but don't let on sssshh ;) And as for the Italians.... well, wait for the next update for both of these things when you should get your answer
I am in an Alliance with the USSR, but unfortunately they probably wont send reinforcements if I need them because of the lack of a joint border at the moment.

1936 End Of Year
Industry and Technology
By the end of 1936, Germany had finally come out of its civil war, at least temporarily, and had begun to rebuild. At the start of 1936 the industrial power of the GSSR had been under attack for 3 years and was severely damaged but at the end of the year all this had been repaired. Also, the base industrial power of the GSSR had risen from 64 to 78, mainly through the conquest of the northern nationalist area.

During the year the technology level of the GSSR was also improved, with the invention/discovery of the following:-
Basic Machine Tools
Basic Light Cruiser
Tankette
Basic Computing Machine
Improved Construction Engineering
Mechanized Agriculture
Early Tank

These inventions were mainly based around the improvement of the GSSR's infrastructure and industrial capacity.

Diplomacy
The main areas of advance in the diplomatic sphere was the improved relations with the USSR which saw the GSSR entering the commintern. Unfortunately there was also a severe deterioration in the relations with both Czechoslovakia and Poland following the attempted communist revolutions. The relations with the Austrian-Germanic Union remained low.

Military Forces
The ground forces were dramatically increased in size during this period with the creation of 8 infantry divisions and 2 armoured divisions. This meant that the army rose from a size of 23 divisions to 33. These new troops were all equiped with modern armament while the older divisions were mainly armed with great war weaponry.

The new units were deployed to the borders while the militia units that had been so important during the civil war were withdrawn to internal regions until needed again.

The air force was not enlarged during this time due to a lack of industrial capacity and the poor technological base of the aeroplane manufacturing industry.

The only new units built for the navy was a single flotila of destroyers that had been under construction since before the civil war. Unfortunately, at this date these units have not been deployed due to the destruction of all ports capable of servicing them. A new naval base was started near the end of 1936.

The Future?
At the end of 1936 the Austro-Germanic Union advanced into the Sudetenland. This gives them an improved industrial infrastructure and a larger front to attack from. It has therefore been decided that in the near future the GSSR should attempt to counter this, either by supporting the communists in Slovakia or via a direct assault on the Austro-Germanic Union. Unfortunately the Western Powers may attempt to protect Austria due to its anti-communist government.

Additionally, at the present time the GSSR is isolated from its allies by the Baltic coast states and Poland. It may therefor be in the best interests of the GSSR to back the communists in Poland should they attempt another revolt.

The nation will have to improve its ground forces during the coming year incase the Western Powers invade before USSR troops can reinforce the borders. Also, the airforce will hopefully be in a position were it can be enlarged during this year.

Technologically the GSSR is currently attempting to improve its aircraft and artillery and will mainly be focusing on these sections of the armed forces.

wait for communists in poland? i say just take it all for yourself..:p
Ahh, but I'm a good guy (relatively). If they revolt I'll let them keep their country.... well, maybe.... er.... maybe some of it.... then again I might just wait for the communists to declare their love of the GSSR and join us with open arms

I dunno, it'll partly depend on what happens but also, if people on here say what they want then I'll try to stick to that (unless the game wont let me for some reason)

At the start of 1937 an eerie calm had fallen over central Europe. Many people could already see war looming on the horizon. The commintern forces were calling their support for the communists in Slovakia and Poland while the Austro-Germanic Union was preparing for a war to take Berlin from the GSSR. At the same time the democratic powers of western Europe were hoping that war could be prevented, or at least delayed.

Europe at the start of 1937

However, on the 4th of January, the armed forces of the GSSR were already in motion. The majority of the ground forces were to be redeployed along the Polish border and the naval forces were sent to block the Baltic coast off from the North Sea.

Military advisors had devised a plan which would hopefully conquer half of Poland (including Warsaw) before the Poles had a chance to react. This was seen as a possibility due to the positioning of the majority of the Polish army along the border with the USSR. At the same time, the other powers would be prevented from sending troops by the fleets in the Baltic Sea.

The plan called for armies from both Konigsberg and Oppeln to act as pincers, advancing rapidly through Poland and the linking up far inside Poland. Armies would also be sent across the rest of the border to mop up any units caught in the pincers. The line would then remain at the position set up by the pincers and allow the USSR to seize the rest of the Polish territory.

Operation "Kommunistisch Befreiung"

The armed forces arrived in position on the 20th and the offensive was planned to begin at 8am on the 25th of January.

The battle begun on time with no real resistance being faced. Only small bands of civilians opposed the advance by throwing up barricades and harrasing the supply lines. With no opposition the armies of the GSSR quickly took control of Bydgoszcz (28th Jan), Danzig (30th Jan), Czestochowa (1st Feb), Suwalki and Poznan (3rd Feb).

Germans living in Danzig celebrated the arrival of the GSSR forces and immediately declared that they were happily once more part of Germany. Now, it just remained for the rest of east Prussia to be reunited with the GSSR. For the first time since the end of the Great War, Germans were living under the spirit of self-determination.

On the 4th of February the GSSR's armed forces came up against a division of the Polish regular armed forces. The units from Konigsberg were halted in an attempt to take Bielsk by two infantry divisions. Further divisions were spotted at Grodno and it became apparent that the northen pincer would not be able to reach its objectives.

By the 7th, the Polish government and military was finally begining to regain some control over their forces. 7 divisions deployed into Torun, defeating an attack by the I. Panzerarmee and stalling the move towards Warsaw. The divisions at Grodno and Bielsk also began an offensive against Suwalki at the same time, and the northern pincer was forced to withdraw by midday the following day. It now appeared that the battle was not going to plan.

SOVIET FRONT
The USSR's attack on Poland was not as successful as the early GSSR assaults. While the USSR had more troops deployed along the border, the Polish forces had the benefit of being dug in and having slightly superior equipment. This meant that the Polish eastern front was able defend itself. After the 5th of February the USSR began to force some Polish forces to withdraw. The movement of troops towards the GSSR border should also lead to a breakthrough by the USSR.
