this game has an over abundance of the aged and aging... which is why we care so much, few games are worth our time or attention...

here's hoping HoI4 can deliver!

Seriously hoping that they can find that balance between the super-technical control that a lot of us want with the playability and just plain old fun that will make this game one for the ages (and aged).

If you view the game as an empty canvas for a good mod, there is plenty to like about HoiIV. Different types of factories --civilian, military and naval. The equipment system is also cool -- you track every tank, plane and artillery piece. Imagine adding equipment types to the point where you are deciding how to allocate your military factories between 75mm 105mm or 155mm artillery or 47mm or 75mm AT guns or 20mm or 90mm AA guns. If you want them to keep up with your tank battalions, you will need to provide trucks to pull them, etc.

We definitely lost a great deal of depth but they add a lot of depth in other areas. I will have to get my hands on it to see if we lost more than we gained.

However, in Daniel's defence: every week Paradox ask us what we want. And what Paradox is predominantly told time and again - largely by the Twitchers - is "invade invade invade" with a sprinkling of "nuke 'em!"

Maybe if more people asked to see how the politics worked in a WWW, we might see more of that. Maybe if more asked for more sessions played at slow speeds (which of course results in less happening and getting far less far into the game.)we might see some proper battle plans. Maybe if more people asked Daniel to spend three sessions just building up, researching and developing Doctrine before beginning hostilities we might see more proper preparation.

But don't hold your breath.

The only ones we have to blame for the direction the WWWs have gone in, are ourselves. Or rather, the majority of us who have just been asking for more attacks yesterday already.

Problem with that is only a small portion watch it live. I know I watch it late at night my time after work and I'm sure many others do as well or wait for the you tube video. Kinda pointless watching when you see nothing new.

If you are older than thirty - or are an ancient (ahem) man of forty four, (as I am), you may well be right. Computer games - even deep WWII strategy games like HOI - are generally not made for the middle aged.

Ill be 50 on May 9th and I love deep WW2 (and others) strategy games like HOI and EU and others........

And so the game just turns into an infantry spam clickfest.

Part of this seems to be because every stream is a fascist country that can declare war at will. I'd love to see some USA footage, for example.

I couldn't agree more. Hoping for a good game, instead watching someone rush through things and making avoidable mistakes. But, I can tell it frustrates Daniel, as well, by his hesitation.
