Just watched WWW and with tension on 94% as far as I could tell USA was still trading oil to Japan.

I was hoping to see USA and Britain issuing warnings and/or embargoes at the very least, after all Japan had just annexed the whole of China.

China did seem to fall very (ahistoricalally) easily

In reality would USA/GB have declared war when China was annexed?
Or were they at least mobilising?
Were extra supplies to China coming in from the Burma road?
Was China getting lend lease from USA/GB? (Flying Tigers)
How were the Soviets reacting to the defeat of their communist brothers?

Embargoing Japan is an US national focus, so something you might not be able to do from one day to another. Also in historical mode the AI is supposed to pick focuses in an quasi-historical order.

I don't think China ever got lend lease in this game, you would have been able to see in the Chinese diplo overview, world tension might have been too low for democracies to give LL.

Yes, but surely world tension should affect this somehow otherwise it's a bit of a pointless feature

It just seems like there are no consequences to aggressive expansion

We've seen a very rapid acceleration from 25% to 90% and then directly to war, so the democracies didn't have much time to make use of the unlocked national foci and diplomatic options.

/Edit
Actually I think there was a whole year between the surrender of China and war with the US? Felt faster than that because of the game speed.

Well if world tension is not 100% there is no global conflict yet, right?
So why would not USA trade with Jap? China was annexed pretty fast thanks to daniel´s skill for sure and as it was mentioned, their special focuses yet not to be researched that time.

It seems you want to compare everything way too much to reality. But would it be any fun to play if everything was the same every game? So every game Allies would win, every game nations would do exactly the same as historicaly. As devs say, nations tend to play as much historicaly as possible, but they have also some freedom in their decisions, researches and stuff, right..

Tbh I don´t see any problems with that.
and fyi do you think (when you are speaking so historicly here) that USA would embargoe Japs in 1935-6 when in that time USA was in terms of soldiers very weak? I think USA would be more scared to be attacked by Japs if they behaved wrong towards them that SOON. (1936)

Just because tension is not 100% should not mean there should be no reaction to aggression, if you can conquer with no consequences that is just ridiculous. This is an historical game so there should be historical reactions, or at least a chance of this, or even ahistorical reactions but USA/GB should at least react in some way

If you just want an easy game use easy mode or play risk.

Well I don´t want an easy game. But if you are USA or GB, do you rly want to provoke somebody who has the most experienced army at that time thanks to a huge war? Maybe you wanna do something against them, but I doubt that anyone would do that right after they conquered China.
Did GB/USA/France do anything against Germany when they build super big army, annexed Austria and Czechoslovakia? Nope, they even said that they are bringing world peace..
so here you go. You should also look at the different side, not just the one .

Oddly, I get the impression from previous WWW that increasing world tension did or would effect things in the west, and there we have actual historical events to benchmark things by.

However in the east nothing happened like in today's WWW, and it just seems like the ai has no idea how to react to non historical events which gives Japan a free hand in China, which to me is really no fun.

Also, I don't think Daniels skill had much to do with China falling that quickly, I think it's more a balance issue which includes the political aspects mentioned in my previous posts

A bit disappointed by today's WWW.

Things were way too easy in China. Deeper Japan went into China's interior, harder the things got for Japaneses - not in this game. China surrender without any late game opposition. I got the impression the troops are moving too fast across the provinces, sometimes in one day they jumped over the province. In real life infrastructure in Chinas interior were terrible and Japanese would expect huge attrition.Historically Japan lost in China more than million men, in this game something like 10 000. Also partisans did not seem like any problem.

I don´t know why they assign so little tension to DoWs and such a big chunk when you defeat the enemy and annex him. The annexation of China and CChina gave 60% WT ? That is a bit too harsh IMO.

You could actually game the system by letting the war simmer and push the enemy into a corner where he is almost but not quite surrendering and you would not gain as much WT...

My thoughts exactly. It keeps being mentioned in the streams about how important supply is but in both WWW it didn't seem to have any effect on the outcome whatsoever

I think it did jump quite high: the price you pay in world tension for defeating China i don't quite understand.

War with China = 25% world tension, annexing china = 95%?

Isn t that quite high? Or was that because of events in europe? (Germany, civil war spain)

Another interesting point is: how can other nations behave historical if the player does not?

Wouldn t other nations be acting different if china was annexed? Maybe we will see this in the next dev diary

Maybe it is a game design fault in having to research "going to war" or "embargo in a country" as it makes it hard for the ai to react to events like increasing tension, having said that I have no idea how things are working in other countries that we just can't see - Maybe as tension increases some of these research things auto-complete?

My thoughts exactly. It keeps being mentioned in the streams about how important supply is but in both WWW it didn't seem to have any effect on the outcome whatsoever
Well, in the first few Japan WWW's the supply was a huge issue especially in the north. Daniel overcame it in the end through successful invasions in a few places and by building up the infrastructure.

It is kind of true that the starting balance between the two belligerents is quite skewed: I can imagine being capable of overrunning China with Japan by starting out with just diverting all military factories to churning out weapons, starting one push from the north and maybe three or four invasions along the coast. The supply problems will be lessened by dividing the attack into parts while the superior weapons seem to essentially guarantee victory at the current stage.

One of the largest countries in the world and was annexed, i was surprised it didn't go to 100%!
Well I think it is not fair to instatly get to 100%. What about other countriers slowly preparing for a war? with 100% WT instant, they would have no chance to do anything.
Basically what you are saying is that if somebody want to wage a war (not for ethiopia I guess), they will instantly make a world conflict. Remember, that Democratic countries tried not to get into war as long as possible. If Hitler didn´t attack Poland, Allies would let him and his country to occupy Austria and Czechoslovakia for free without any sanctions or whatsoever. I don´t think that Allies would instantly declare war on Japan just because they did something to China, since China is very far and also China wasn´t ally to any of these countries (USA GB FRANCE etc). Also, in China there was a coup in that time (for People.Rep.) so I doubt other nations would be in such a hurry with declaring war.
I think that it will be better to wait for 1. Balancing(cause things can change A LOT) 2. Dev Diary 3. Seeing it in another playthrough :)

I think this Explosion of Tension seems too much (after Japan defeating China)? It instantly enables all Kind of nasty stuff for Democracys. So no matter what Germany does in 1937, a war going well for Japan stirring up France, GB and USA THAT early...

Still subject to balancing?
