my God ... My God ... awesome mod .. but ... i have played over 10 times as Germany with the same result ... in 1941 not enough troops to launch barbarossa ... due to construction times ... anyway i launch the campaign with the help of my Italian Romanian and Bulgarian allies ... impossible to win .. the Soviets in no time the have tons of infantry in every province ... result always the same ... DEFEAT ... plus the landings of the allies in the west ... nightmare ... the mod is too difficult for my skills ... FT i suggest this .. why don't you follow black ice's example and at the beginning of the game the player could choose the difficulty ? at this point IMO the game is very hard (too much AI cheat) ...

AFAIK you can choose the difficulty level in the options menue at the start of your game. You should note however that in WIF II "Normal" means "Hard" for DH Full (or vanilla).

I got same problem. What I did was and it might be somehow meta - I didnt go for central planning but kept the slider in the middle, rather go hawk lobby quick to decrease build times and sooner experimental lines. I also did attack and conquer France in 1939, spending 1940 invading Norway (which took forever cause tanks are crap there) and some Balkan fun, including Greece and plan to send few divisions to Africa. Now I have some 180+ divisions preparing against Russia and I will again launch invasion on 22 june 1941, with like everything I have. I also didnt bother building up much airforce, spending some IC to build AA, especially prior to having research infantry 1936, where theres alot of space to do that. Now im upgrading, got some 20-25 mobile divisions incl. SS infantry, armor and mot, about 20-24 INT and 20 CAS. The huge russian mob. Well, its about one battle at all.

let me know of your progress ... i reached Smolensk by september 1941 but that was it ... after that i went to defensive ... too many Soviet divisions to handle ...

One of the "best" ways to win on the eastern front is to have as much mot, mech, and arm as you can by 41, but mainly mots since they can get an early research and production, and they are fastest. So the strategy would obviously be to use your mobile force to make many pockets and speed grabs in deep territory. Going as far east as you can before winter must be your objective. Use your and allied axis infantry as the real backbone of your army, but mots must be the real lebensraum makers.

I dont really use airforces too much, but tacs and cas can obviously be a good aid to break the Soviet stacks and frontlines, then breakthrough. Only if you are good at micro and airforce management tho!
Getting the Japs on your side can be a great bonus! Especially if they could defeat china and annex/puppet it before you start the war.

And can also take time to destroy as many divisions as you can along the way, but its not priority 1 as you can leave them just starving and AI wont try to breakthrough. I find taking time to crush pockets could be better used to actually create new ones and starve more divisions like that!

Forcing Bitter Peace must be achieved somewhere 1941-1943, any more later and you might as well turn off the PC....
After that the Soviets are just a nuisance

WiF2 is a mod designed for experts. It is HARD mode. So I don't get why everyone is complaining it is HARD. Fernando is unlikely to make the mod easier. If you want an easier experience, play on EASY or play one of the forks of WiF2 that makes things easier by artificially making axis units better and reducing free units given to USSR/others which are designed to replace units that are supposed to be destroyed via encirclement if played by a veteran player.

My only complaint about this fantastic mod is when playing axis nations OTHER then Germany... USSR gets some redonk events that the AI Germany can in no way deal with (or the Human playing Italy/Japan for that matter).

Strongly suggest USSR get a half-strength buffing event if Germany is AI and human is Italy or Japan (or Romania/Hungry/Finland too I guess).

Well I got approx 40 faster divisions, some 170 infantry + allies, 47 INT and 16 CAS poised to strike USSR. Gonna be fun. Encirclements work unless you get bogged down in mud and snow :( then you get pushed back halfway.

Its not cheating AI. Its basically fact that is reflecting the need to supplement AI. Russian AI will spend time and money researching and doing totally stupid stuff (naval doctrines, hello?) and not really giving much crap about its divisions and manpower, which eventually make USSR a really bad enemy. In DH Full, France took me more men then USSR did. THats sad. in WiF if I recall correctly, there is scripted event that gives USSR some extra divisions when you capture some of their space. Great patriotic war that actually puts up a resistance, even though its sadly tough for us. And above all, Germany did wage war with USSr for 4 years. SIngle winter to win, cmon ;)

Having the Soviet Union researching naval doctrines and building an important fleet is actually not stupid based on history. The goal was to prevent what happened during the Civil war, i.e. troops from foreign powers landing almost everywhere.
Now, with the knowledge of what happened IRL, that is another problem. As a side note, a lot of hull/ships got destroyed by the Red Army during its retreat, especially along the Black Sea coast.

Barbarossa really was a GAMBLE historically. Could Blitzkrieg defeat USSR and work on great steppes? Hitler failed. But we know Hitler was a mad buffoon and some of his orders impeded the good functioning of the Wehrmacht. And this is game, so it will be a bit easier than IRL.

You really Gotta go fast, Sonic™. But really actually you can break the Soviet AI if you jump them fast enough, and encircle enough units. You can even break the move industry events, and snag their IC in west Russia, crippling even more the Soviets. But then you gotta go REAL fast.

Anyway when you go past the first winter, you are already in overtime and each day after that is a bonus of safety from Red Hordes.

so would you recommend starting Barbarossa as early as possible?
