This was the first game I have played in Rome.

Nation: Macedonia
Version: 1.2
Difficulty: Normal

By 654 AVC my Macedonia is the sole remaining country, even though I played in a slow and relaxed way without rushing anything.

It's not total world domination yet, as some uncolonized territory remains. But at this stage the game speed has sunk to a crawl, opening the character window causes a 5 seconds load and at least 3 governors die every month. Meaning continuing at this stage would be a frustrating, mindnagging nightmare.

Had about 6 or 7 of them, but it was never more than 8 provinces joining the revolters...

That's not rude man. I played for one night as a one province Greek state and it became clear that it was just a matter of time before I rolled over everything. And I lost interest and went back to HOI Doomsday which I hadn't played in ages and I'm having a blast...

For a series that has been around this long...The battle mechanics in Rome are a joke.... This game needs extensive mods badly. It neither appeals to casual gamers or hard core players....

And just for the record 'sticking pigs' is the worst and most annoying game play mechanic in any Paradox game ever.....

I'm really disappointed in Rome. Instead of making it its own distinct game that is meant for ancient empires its just a dull EU game. Victoria has a great economic system, HoI2 has a great military system, and EU has dumbed down versions of both to make gameplay extremely boring. I'm sorry to say this but Rome: Total War is still tons more fun than this.

There have been some people who have said that the Greek minors are overpowered. Unfortunately they are racists who don't understand the fact that every minor should have the same advantages and possibilities as Rome, Carthage or the Selucids.

This is why people like me don't get to see a real ROME game, because everyone wants to play a minor and turn them into an Empire in each game, like it was the natural conclusion that they all could have done it.

Also, when people like me suggested that barbarian hordes should be able to annihilate cities, provinces and entire civilizations, that wasn't considered cosher, either.

Finally, each and every barbarian Horde marches towards Rome or towards Carthage, because they were magnets for every marauder from the Baltic to the Black Sea. This is why your Macedonnia probably never had to fear the barbarians who were going West. :D

I had my fair share of barbarian hordes, but they were no match for my mercenaries

I agree there are elements of the game that are too easy.

However:

1. Turn up the difficulty already, what are you doing dude playing on normal with your mad skills, did you really expect the AI to stand up to you without a bunch of bonuses?

2. For a challenge, try doing what you did with Macedonia with one of the minor gallic tribes. If you get a world conquest with the Averni or something, then I'll be really impressed. Macedonia is one of the easiest countries to play.

For the person who disagreed that greek minors are overpowered, the reason some of us feel that way is that all the greek states (including the majors like Macedonia and Seleucids) get to play in permanent easy mode because of the 90% omen success chance the greeks get. Carthage, Egypt and Rome do not enjoy this advantage.

For me the biggest challenge would be at this stage not getting annoyed by appointing governors. I get tired of this with 10-20 provinces already, especially during the war when they tend to drop like flies. I'd love to see a feature where you could designate entire Gaul as province, appoint one governor there and let him handle the details.

I second that! We need the ability to assign more than one provinces to a governour. I think that would solve alot of problems. I think this would also bring the much needed "flair" that rome lacks as we will have governours who are more powerfull and important than others which will finally give them a "character" instead of just being a face with a number as it is now.
We need something like dutchies from CK.
