Better to play as aragon, you conquer, they colonize, so you get colonies, and now, you colonize for yourself.
But not right away - that's the key. You want to get more cores very quickly, so that you can expand and in 50 years get more cores and repeat that again. If you go PU-colonization route then you delay this process. It will be 100-150 years before Portugal does significant colonization. But if you are playing as Castille and let Portugal colonize they are same culture group and you do get cores.

I didn't know that. And you dont get cores on their territory if they dont have cores themselves. So all those uncored colonies that they get sort of late (especially if they are stuck under a PU) do not get your core upon inheritance.
Can you integrate during the war? And are PU countries dragged into your wars automatically? The war limitation is quite significant for WC. In my cheese-free WC game I went without peace for around 200 years, sometime between 1450 and 1650.Furthermore, with all the warring, the amount of peacetime decreases significantly, and therefore the chances for inheriting PUs. You can not inherit during war.

Austria obviously.
