It's 1286. I am a count and multiple barony holder in Germany. The king of Hungary's pretty yet woefully untalented sister Erzsébet is his heir. She is not happy in Hungary. I send her a gift and a letter informing her that I am aware of her grief and wish to see her happy. I invite her to come live at my court. She happily does so. Months pass. News from Hungary: King Laszlo has died of mysterious circumstance, but not before his wife Elizabeth of Naples could give him a daughter. Rumor has it the welp is sickly and may die any day.
I marry Erzsébet, who is aging, now well into her 30's. Yet Laszlo's welp does not die.
A year passes and the toddler Queen reigns still, but Hungary is in a state of civil war and facing invasion from the Mongols. My holdings are untouched by war for decades before I even came into them. Now is the time to strike at this unstable land. I rally a few thousand men and march on Buda. The siege is long but uneventful, but finally the region falls and the Hungarians surrender. Now my wife is Queen of Hungary.
She hadn't asked for this and was content just living in peaceful Germany, so when I propose I should take over the day-to-day tasks of her Kingdom she readily agrees. Now I have the true power in Hungary.

Years pass and the Kingdom starts to recover from it's wars. But now my new vassals are getting unruly. They detest the idea of a German ruling over them, and begin plotting against me. Acting quickly I attempt to imprison the leader of the would-be-rebels. He evades capture and raises his banner in true revolt, bringing half of Hungary with him. The combined rebel forces overwhelm the royal levies, and I am forced to take loans to hire mercenaries. Only then do I learn of a new alliance between the rebel leader and the King of Denmark.
The Danes arrive just behind my new mercenary army and proceed to slaughter it. I have no choice but to surrender to the rebels, who foolishly put Erzsébet back into true power.

Now I am heavily in debt and a known usurper. I decide I need the help of God. I plead with The Pope to send me funds and grant me a divorce from my aging wife, that I may leave Hungary - where I am unwelcome. The Pope refuses my pleas. 'Fine, we'll play it that way then, priest'. I inform The Pope that I have decided to gift the church large tracts of land in Hungary and in Germany. The Pope responds saying he is pleased. It is then that I ask for my divorce and some gold to pay my debt. The Pope refuses.

How could this have happened? Now I'm in debt to the Jews, the Hungarian lords send assassins after me regularly, the Catholic church which I grew up a member of has turned it's back on me... All for the untalented Erzsébet of Hungary. I am tied to this woman who can never bore me children now. How long's it been anyway? Ten years? Ten years of fruitless intrigue? My life is hopeless.
*Gains stressed and depressed traits*

One day an assassin comes to my estate. I know what he is, but I let him in anyway.

That was a truly kick-ass AAR!

If it's any consolation, I had a somewhat similar game play out, as a King of Aragon who married the Duchess of Aquitaine. They didn't like my Castilan ways, and they eventually revolted, and put her back into power. Where I can only assume the poor, dumb, content, trusting thing was a pawn of her council. (this being before I changed it so higher_tier only vassalized).

It should be with PB, or PB+SMWH for now. I'm not sure on the exact status of VIET since SoA, but when I am, I will also provide a compatibility patch for it, and PB+SMWH+VIET.

As a disclaimer, PB+SMWH+VIET is also my preferred mod setup, so most everything I work on, will be intended to be compatible with that in the long run.

If you know anything about modding, then my event should work for any mod, provided that in 00_on_actions, you add my events to trigger on death and divorce (if that made any sense to you, you'll know what I mean).

This is a bug. His titles should have gone back to his wife, upon his death. Can you do me a favor, load up the game, type 'charinfo 1' in the console, and mouse over the duchess and duke? She should have 'usurped_by_husband', and he should have 'usurped_my_wife'.

Also. Who was the jure uxoris Duke of Saxony's heir, before he died? Did he have a son on her?

This might have something to do with him being 'lowborn', or having no dynasty. Which I'm gonna take a look at for the next release (make it so duchesses and countesses don't marry lowborns).

Honestly, it sounds like maybe, they were in an empire with appointment_succession...?

If he had a male child by her, her lands will stay with him. But if he didn't have a male child by her, then they should've gone back to her. It might have something to do with the unborn child.

I'll start up CK2 and check for those flags.

But no, they were in the HRE and the succession law was Agnatic-Cognatic Gavelkind. They had no children together, and the duchess already had two sons by her previous husband (my son). Her new husband was lowborn, but as soon as he gained the title he was created the head of some random dynasty. His own heir was the Emperor, because he had no family whatsoever.

Whenever he died the Emperor inherited as liege, and quickly gave them out to some guy. Whenever the duchess died, absolutely nothing happened and he remarried.

Side-Suggestion: Might you consider making it so if a man exercises jure uxoris on his wife, that if she already has older sons, then they would become the heir? This could be something the man might be able to 'plot-his-way-out-of' of course. And if nothing else, all her children by a previous husband should get strong claims on the title.

That's how I had it originally, but for some reason I couldn't figure out yet, is_primary_heir kept breaking the death event. I'll give it another crack.

OTOH, there are examples from history, of those kids from an earlier marriage getting short thrift. Finders keepers, as it were.

If they had the right flags, I can't imagine how the death event didn't sort it out.

There is one or two things I fixed for 1.03, so that might've snowballed into it at some point. (Tightened some factors up considerably, and also with non-dejure vassals going to the proper people).

EDIT: The death event is also dependent on her claims being valid...There might've been some tomfoolery, or a civil war war or something among the AI, that forced her to lose her strong claims?

I'm away from my computer right now, so I can't check yet!

I don't think there was a civil war, because it would've notified me. Is it because of the on_actions and the mods I'm using? I downloaded the patch for PB, but perhaps other mods need it?

It should work, as long as the 00_on_actions file used in your folder, is mine, and wasn't overwritten by another mod. Mine should override, but it's possible that it won't...in which case simply dropping my PB-compatible on_actions into the PB folder and overwriting the one in there, should ensure that no matter what, it's using a compatible 00_on_actions, and won't affect anything else.

v1.03 released

Mostly just fixed it so de_facto as well as de_jure vassals were taken better care of.

Please note, that until I find a way to satisfactorily fix it, I still consider requesting matrilineal marriages while using this mod to be an exploit. But, hey, at least it's useful for testing purposes.

And currently, I'm having a little difficulty in ensuring that when a vassal who marries his usurped liege lady dies, that his vassalship transfers correctly to her heir, if there is no son. But I did not delay the release for it, since it's a rare situation.

I also made it slightly easier for faithful councilors to assist their liege ladies.

EDIT:

updated to 1.031. Tweaked the .mod file to help ensure it isn't overwritten. You still need to take the 00_on_actions from the MB-PB download, and replace the 00_on_actions in the vanilla compatible download, to use it with PB or PB+SMWH.

Not yet compatible with VIET events. Although depending on which version of VIET you're using, you can make it compatible yourself, by deleting the 00_on_actions from the MBGOTW mod folder, going into VIET's 00_on_action, and adding 'Damo.91' to the divorce accept event, and Damo.90 into the on_death event. That'll work until my 1.04 or 1.05 release, at least.

I started a new game with PB + SWMH, VIET Traits, Additional Objectives, Pledge Mod, and family relations.

During this time I noticed that Matilda di Canossa was usurped by her husband. They had a daughter together, but Matilda died of consumption. Her husband kept the lands, and has since remarried. Now he has had a son by his new wife, who is heir to Matilda's lands :(

The only mods I'm using that have 00_on_actions are your mod and PB. I downloaded the PB Fix and dropped in the MB-GOTW 'on actions' folder, so I don't know why this isn't working.

I should mention that I'm on a mac, and have had issues with .mod files before.

I had to physically combine PB, PB +SWMH, and SWMH together so that the game wouldn't crash on startup.

Addition: I just married a Duchess, usurped her, and was able to divorce/kill her and still keep the titles :/

Are you sure you haven't changed something in your copy of the mod that isn't in the public copy?

I'll do that I think.

I am 99.99% positive it's referring to the wrong 00_on_actions. I updated the dependencies to make sure it loads after Project Balance, too.

Also. I'd add into the mod, an update of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Matilda of Canossa to their proper stats, but that'd be a compatibility nightmare :p.

I copied your 00_on_action to PB's folder, but the problem still remains. Whenever a landed wife predeceases her husband, he keeps her titles still. There was no children by the marriage I tested this on.

I copied your 00_on_action to PB's folder, but the problem still remains. Whenever a landed wife predeceases her husband, he keeps her titles still. There was no children by the marriage I tested this on.

Go into the 00_on_actions, and search for 'Damo.90'. It should be there under on_death_events. If it is, then something, somewhere is overriding it.

VIET events also has an 00_on_actions file. Are you using VIET?

I just tested 1.031, and the only issue I can see, is the one where previously vassalized husbands aren't re-vassalized by their liege wife in a consistent fashion, after a divorce or death without an heir.

I am not using VIET Events since you said it was incompatible. but I will go check for Damo.90.

EDIT: Okay, I went and checked and Damo.90 was in the on_actions file. I don't know what could be overriding it.

I have no idea either. Try loading a vanilla game, with only the newest MBGOTW ennabled. You should be able to marry Matilda right off the bat, if you use the matrilineal marriage exploit (any female ruler will accept a matrilineal marriage offer from anyone), then usurp and console kill her, and you should lose her stuff.

I've tested it both with PB and Vanilla, just now.

I just noticed something when I just played the mod. I'm not sure if it is because of patch 2.01 or the mod, but when I played it, there was this girl who was betrothed to two both of my grandsons at once.

Is it just from this mod or is it there in the vanilla? I'll going to report it to the bug section if it's there in the vanilla.

Vanilla AI doesn't do any betrothals at all so I doubt it's because of 2.0.1.

I'll have to look into it. Theoretically, if an individual is betrothed or married already, it shouldn't be allowed to happen. Something is probably awry in one of the limits.

Do they actually end up in plural marriages, or just plural betrothals? Is it common?

The betrothal system is odd. First thing, it only shows up for the man in question, and it says 'wife' where it should say betrothal. And for the woman there is nothing shown indicating a betrothal. Also, multiple people have been betrothed to the same woman. For example, two HRE princes were betrothed to the same countess.
