I'm working in small mod that creates more culture based favour in the former roman empire. At the moment it only encompasses Roman, Greek and the Romance cultures.
For some places that don't have different spelling in other romances languages I've been creating names, instance Montferrat and Abruzzo become Monteferrato and Saluço if ruled by a Portuguese lord.
Now I've come to a fork in the road; what do I with places that changed name during the barbarian invasions? For instance Lombardy, do use the Latin Langobardia or go all out classical and call the duchy Gallia Cisalpina?

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in modding. If it's in the wrong place a admin can move it.

I think you should go for Langobardia, considered that the Gallia Cisalpina area also encompassed Veneto and Liguria, and considered that you probably aren't going to fragment France in the various Galliae.

(Also, Montferat is Monferrato in Italian, in case you missed that.)

Yeah I caught that, it's in the Italian spelling in landed titles. I'm not changing the de jures, only making the names vary depending on culture.

Question for Portuguese speakers do place names like Legnão, Vigevão, Bassão, Merão, Bolção and Savillão look odd? These are based on the Italian name with Portuguese -ano to -ão taken into consideration.
