I have seen this in several games so far:

1. Colonists who have "jobs" running around to all the scavenger and construction sites. Why? If they are going to be doing everything any way, why differentiate between them?

2. I have had colonists just appear out of thin air. Nothing at the gate, no event, just my colony count jumps by 1 or more colonists.

3. Random corpses stinking up the place just appear. The colonist count doesn't go down, I just get a corpse or two in camp. Usually on the leading into or coming out of contagion or radiation events. But not always.

1, I don’t have an answer for this one sadly

2, Colony count increasing by one usually means a child has turned into an adult.

3, not seen it confirmed but I do think colonists can die “natural” deaths as had this myself and never seemed to have found a logical explanation

Right, but if a new child is born... then the count goes up.

Now, on the topic of #3, i’ve had people randomly starve to death before. Even though I have over 800 food stocked up, they decide they don’t need to eat I guess.

I have definitely had #3 happen before even with hundreds of food stored

I had #3 happen - a colonist just up and starving for no reason - while I was watching him. Somehow the colonist in question had gotten 'stuck' in one place, just wouldn't move. Wouldn't eat, wouldn't work, just motionless in front of his house while his HP slowly ticked down to 0. Either there's some kind of depression system hidden in the game or it's simply a bug where occasionally a colonist will just freeze up.

I'm a relative newcomer to the game but I get the impression that if a colonist has low morale they may decide to go and socialise with somebody else and spend hours standing around near them. They can pick anyone, so it could take them out to a faraway work area.
