I was playing the king of France and my wife had a claim on the kingdom of Castille. I won the war after decades of fighting.. now in just a few months a faction fires and she is immediately replaced without a war. As king of France and allied to her I was not even asked about support! And since she alone would not be able to win it, she caved to the demands.

AI rulers should take allies into account when deciding on how to respond to faction demands. In this case, the troop support from France was 3x the size of entire Castille.

May be your sweet wife just didn`t want more bloodshed in her name

Anyway, it would be more historical if a male gained her wife`s titles. You press her claim on Castille, in the eyes of the people of middle ages, that would make you the king of Castille

That's really common. Claimant wars tend to end by with only usurping the capital which was presumably fully sieged down so it has 0 troops. Now imagine yourself in the place of the new king/queen. You have 1 county with no troops, tons of factions around 700% or more because everyone hates your guts. Pleasant, isn't it?

It would be sweet if she could ask you for support before she answered the ultimatum. If you said yes to support her you’d be automatically enrolled into the following war. If you said no she could choose whether to fight the war on her own or to relinquish the throne

AI behaves funny with alliances sometimes doesn't. I don't know the nuts and bolts of how pressing a claimant currently works so im probably way off base with this. I just always thought pressing a claim should give the new claimant some event troops or allow them to take some extra demense and have it refill. Currently they are at the mercy of the old aristocracy.

Once i pressed my half sisters claim on Scotland as england and won in November the same year. Then on the 5th jan i got a message from the old King of Scotland's son, now king of scots, about a marriage. I actually did a spit take. Checking through the title history my sister had only been overthrown on the 3rd. So i loaded up as her from the autosave on the first to see if i could stop that happening. Guess what? The faction that had reinstated the old kings son had 3 nobody counts in it with maybe 2500 men between them. And she had capitulated without a fight.

Borrowed money from the jews, hired one merc company and destroyed the uprising in a month. Didnt even call in england. Which i could have done.

Edit; i should mention it was an early start so Scotland was actually pictland and tribal. None of her vassals came to her aid even when i was playing her do 2500 was to much. The ai just doesnt count all of its advantages sometimes when a faction fires.

I really wish that there were some different mechanics or events for rulers married to rulers. Had a situation doing 1066 Karling where I own all the counties in the duchy besides the one the duke brother-in-law owned. Push my wife’s claim and get her the title. So yeah it’s nice I got my son lined up the unite everything but my progress is limited to waiting for everyone to die or whatever my wife AI decides to do (nothing) whereas in a real life situation the person would be ruling from behind the scenes or there would be some kind of cooperational rulership. Not just picking loyalist on the council screen.

Yeah, if you're about just creating a story or are doing a challenge run with particular rules then ironman can completely screw you by letting the ai have its nonsense logic. Better to play with it off if achievements dont matter to you.

The annoying thing is that even if I press her claim again, the same thing will happen :( So I have no way of solving this situations. People with claims are pretty useless if I can't use them.

Also a related scenario: My son who was given a county gets into war with another of my vassals, and I can not help him. This feels a bit ahistorical because vassals would make alliances with the king to keep the peace.

One of the mamy reasons I stopped pressing claims of my wife. Maybe I go to war to refresh it but not winning this war.

There are also other downsides. Like she takes yoyr kuds with her and you lose the control over them.

Of course you have a way. Give your wife 3-4 counties or maybe a duchy so she can protect herself after you pressed her claim :)

landless female claimants are pretty useless other for breeding their weak claim into your dynasty.

if they are already landed, they are basically same as male claimants. you press their claim to expand the realm and then stop caring what happens to the claimant since you already got what you wanted and don't care which puppet "rules" the lands on your behalf.

but since you can't land female courtiers (outside of absolute cognatic laws), you can only really use them to breed dynasty members with weak claims and then later press those claims. again, once the claim is pressed, you better stop caring about what happens to the claimant. it's not really relevant anyway.

in the OPs case, the smart thing to do would have been to ignore the claim and only press it after your king and his wife died and your next character inherited it as a personal claim from his mother. i've tried putting wifes on thrones a couple of times but it never really works. even if you ally them and they call you into a few faction wars - sooner or later they will fail to call you into one of the wars and end up giving in to some faction demand and then the stupid wife comes back home as a courtier and you end up pressing the claim as a personal claim once you play your son. might as well skip the intermediate step ;)

All well and good for inheritable weak claims or strong claims but not for uninheritable ones. In my example above my half sister was the product of my previous kings 2nd marriage and only had an uninheritable weak claim. Better to press the claim and risk it failing to stick than just let it go to waste. Especially as opportunities to press weak claims dont come up much without the old pointed push if you know what i mean.

You can refresh the claim by goingt to war for it and white peace out.

"Castille languishes under the misrule of a child king and his greedy advisors! If you truly care for her people, you will order your puppet to stand down and cede the throne to the queen!"

"Castille will not accredit the self-serving lies of a petty tyrant! Cease your barking, little dog, or feel the teeth of the hounds!"

"Very well, you have forced my hand! Now, the King of France rides to war!"

"So be it! When next we meet it will be on the field of battle!"

"The field of what now? Oh, sorry! I meant to say 'the King of France rides to whore"! You know, spend a nice relaxing weekend at the brothel, let off some steam, give myself some distance from this whole thing because it's getting a little heated."

"Oh. What about your wife's claim?"

"What about it? When I'm back from the brothel, she'll probably hate me. I'm not pressing fine claim of someone who hates me. Maybe she'll have a son or something, and we can talk then, yeah?"

"Fair enough. Have fun at the brothel!"

I don’t get it.
