Because I look after each member of my family, even my daughters, I often have girls with good stats. The problem is, I can't seem to find a way to take advantage of that. Marrying them off to get an alliance almost seems like a waste. I've seen some women in this game hold a council position but I've never been given the option of offering any to women in my court (keep in mind I haven't played that much as you guys).
How do you grant council positions to women, and is that even possible?
I try to breed great courtiers that way, making sure the women are married to men with high stats (matrilineally, so that they remain in my court) unless I need them to marry politically. But this doesn't always work. I've never had spectacular results. If you don't have anything better to do with them, you can use them to improve the genes of your vassals, which should be helpful if you plan to play as a good ruler because if both you and your vassal share a positive trait, you can get a mutual opinion bonus, unlike when you both have the same negative one; good martial and stewardship in your vassals always helps, but even other stats as appointing a vassal to the council is a nice +20 to opinion, which does help in a difficult succession. Plus, it makes more sense to have vassals on the council than courtiers or a healthy mix.
I sometimes roleplay a royal marriage to a vassal as some kind of reward, too (while also making sure the lady from my ruler's family, especially a more remote cousin, gets a decent man even with little land, rather than some cruel wroth lustful idiot who'd abuse her).
