This is one of the reasons I was against titans, unless they've thought up some unique role or mechanic that titans can play into, then it's just bigger ships for the sake of bigger ships, and doesn't actually add anything.

Heck, in the current meta 3 of the 4 size classes are already mostly invalidated by endgame, adding a new size isn't going to address that.

And if they decide Titans are going to have special auras or support abilities, well, Battleships could already do that before.

There's also the risk of Titans being too good, and ending up in a Sins of a Solar Empire situation, where a fleet with a titan in it was basically unbeatable for an opposing fleet without a titan, even if the titan-less fleet outnumbered them significantly. I wouldn't want to see the game devolve into titan vs. titan only slugging matches with a bunch of smaller ships that don't matter.

This is my feeling too, I don't see a point in adding a bigger ship just for the sake of bigger ships. There is no value. I'm hoping they won't do that.

The point of the titans are to be good and it should be the most stronges ships so ''sins'' was doing right with that.If it was not like that what it the point of having bigger ships ? They should remove all bigger ships, left the corvettes alone. But they should not have a some sort of aura/support ability this can ruin the combat, combat is already a mess.If they wanna add support ships (they should done that already it is way to late...) they have to create new class for that,it should be some sort of a new type.(like they did it in sins.) The bigger ships being a support is a bad very bad idea.It could be op for those who has that role then that's what you say will happen.

Maybe it's a variation of the Titan class, specialized on sieges, certain aura effects or even a mobile stealth generator for the fleet.

Why can't we have all of that right now? How are we expected to play on 1.9 with those pics around?

In such designs the ring usually rotates and the centrifugal force presses you against the outside wall from the inside so you can walk on it. o.o
This is seen as the cheapest and most low tech version of artificial gravity available as all you have to do is have thrusters and enough tech to make a ship that doesn't break from the strain.

In this context however I'm almost tempted to guess that is this some sort of portal ship. Would be amazeballs if we could have a ship like that jump behind enemy lines and establish a link to one of your gates, allowing your fleets to penetrate as well without the jump drive shock and allowing for retreats as long as the ship is intact.

That or it's a construction ship of some sort.

I highly doubt it's a construction ship. If anything, I believe your "portal ship" is more likely.

Looks like a mobile jump gate. Make it trought enemy territory and then BAM! Now you can teleport ships straight from your shipyards directly into your foe's capital. Would be cool as hell.

You have a big fleet and you have a every one of the ships type in it.(corvettes, battleships etc ) If you let the the most powerful ship have a some sort of support abilities, they will be very effective.First of all they are hard to destroy until you do that they will support every ship you have in range. You wanna get rid of support ability(what wil you do ) you have to focus titan and it won't work for sure.It should be balanced, titans shouls not have a ablities like that.It could change the space battle deeply in a bad way ofc.

The post from @pieman says it.With this way titan be too good, having that kind of abilities for titans will make it op.It will kill the ''strategy'' of space combat,it does not already exist.

For this job they should add new type of support ships in game, they should do it.

About the ring ship, a few guesses:

-Shield generator (a large shield protecting the fleet).
-Aura generator.
-Anything a "support ship" could do (no weapons, but special features).
-A distinguishable Dreadnought design (tanky appearance, double beak in front of ship just like Leviathan's Dreadnought, though I see no weapons in it).
-Safer Fleet Emergency FTL device.
-Lastly and unprobable, a special kind of army carrier.

It's no regular ship indeed, but I don't think it has a role of a super weapon. I'd say they will come, but on another dev diary, not this one.

The point of ring structure for artificial gravity has been already raised. My bet that it's new nomad ship which can transform to a sort of planet/habitat.

The model is too good to waste it on some utility stuff which you will not be looking a lot at.

Dammit Paradox stop making 1.9 so interesting with all that teasing, my flagella can only get so moist.

Do you mean un-interesting? Because we're currently at 1.9.1

It seems Cherry will be 2.0, not "just" 1.9, due to the major overhaul of many game mechanics.

1.9 has already been reeased. It is the patch that came with Humanoids expansion.
It's not called 1.10 because it has many major overhauls.

If that's two new ship hull designs for mammalians in the pic, then it would follow that there are-or-will-be two new ship hull designs for every species, including their new humanoids. That's a lot of art work

It's now been 1 week that I am totally incapable of launching a Stellaris game because it seem so bland compared to what is promised. On the other side I spend way too much time here...
I blame you Wiz.

Nice ship though. I hope it's an aura generator. Auras are cool.

If you can get that to your enemy's capital unopposed, why not just get your fleets there instead without the extra step? I suppose a mobile Gateway could be useful for getting reinforcements in faster, but that's about it.

My guess is it's some kind of a superweapon for either destroying Starbases ("not by conventional means" ring any bells?) or for destroying planets and habitats. I'm just hoping it's not some hard counter against Starbases, since that sounds like it would undermine the goal of making stationary defenses viable pretty badly.
