Yes very true, it does get a bit dull when your subjects win every war for you without you having to do anything much at all. I had that in my 1.3.2 GBR game, and I only had 10 subjects - but that included Spain who had 100k troops and were Lucky.
In the end I stopped playing the game as there wasn't any war I could expect to lose, and it was more about micro mop-up than challenge.

Use the checkbox "Attach army", allow only one 2k stack (of mercenaries) to be attached to, don't move that stack for the entire war and voilà.

I don't see how that will fix the rebel problem, as vassals will still stick to the bait army even if rebels are in next province.
Oh well then use the bait stack to deal with the rebels, isn't that an option?
What's so lol about that? it's not like the British or the French were bashful about recruiting from their colonial holdings when they were hurting for manpower. It was half of the casus belli for the War of 1812.

Anywho. Is the PU AI different than the Vassal AI? I've had Prussia follow my armies all over the map in my current game, and have a union with them as Brandenburg (due to event).

Vassals that do things in their interest, it seems! To far away, not threatening my territory, meh!
Now vassals and nations i PU should try to gain independence!
Vassals bigger/stronger together than their protector joint-action-independence war! For the next time. Starting to get integrated try to get a last chance of independence.
