I guess probably because on EUIV you can have some control over it...as you get:
3 + ‘skill of leader’ + ‘skill of advisor’ + ‘bonuses’

IR was:
‘Skill of leader’

So if your character had brain damaged trait or was jsut terrible you could end up in a situation where one or more did not increase at all as their stat was on 0...in fact quite a lot of characters have at least one stat of 0 when you look...

I know that other things were thin on the ground, but mana was the flame we all flocked too!
Oh I know what it was like... and it was absolutely awful. EU4s mana is also awful, but IRs was just attrocious. Very glad they changed this, from which so many other changes flowed from.

There are some things I miss about Imperator pre 2.0, particularly minor families.. fertility issues in particular really annoy me sm that it prevents me playing the game. But def the game was previously quite thin and barebones with nothing else to do except war.

At least now we have buildings and such, remember when we used to have only 4? XD

Oh god the four buildings...they were dreadful.

I should point out I build no buildings outside of cities unless the missions require them - too expensive and not enough benefits really!

Also, can we just appreciate the music for one second? Is it me or does IR have the best game music in a very long time (especially on PC).

As a musician I feel they deserve so much credit for it and yet they never seem to!

My absolute fav music score is ironically the first thing u hear when u launch the game! I listen to it sometimes (Hegemony). So beautiful the music and I replay it several times over! I wish there was a music player so I can listen to them properly - I play them over on YouTube while playing the game tbh lmao

In terms of buildings, I usually build farms etc. I did wish there was some assests that can be put on settlements to show this but still gorgeous artwork that still beats recent Paradox Games like CKIII. This is a template that should be used from now on.

I admit some of the artwork could be embellished and you mention CK3 - I think I wrote the only negative review of it on Steam (I hated it)

They should rework buildings alongside trade, the ports, markets,. tax office feel a bit limp and unengaging - they don't seem impactful enough, ports should be strategic, you shouldn't be able to plonk one anywhere - then make a port far more impactful, then you've got a center of trade or a military harbour, not just a city that also happens to have a port.

Oh fully agree with u. An EU4 natural harbour would be beneficial and trade system represented on the map would be good.

I dont like CKIII tbh. There is already a perfect game that is CKII that is feature complete and imo more stimulating and ftting for the time period. If there was CKII gameplay with CKIII map that would be awesome.

They should allow you to build ports anywhere, but there should be ports that have increased trade income/perma buffs if they were historically important (Carthage, Ostia, Alexandria, Athens..) like how on EU4 there are trade sites scattered around

I liked the "The Siege" song especially when the vocals enter in the song. There some good musics on I:R and yet I could not know if they are the best. Still listening.

As someone who plays most paradox titles let me echo that returning to imperator recently was one of the most surprisingly enjoyable experiences Ive recently had in gaming. And given the state of other paradox titles I may be spending more time in imperator.

Since building slots are limited you actually aren’t that free to build ports everywhere without minding the opportunity costs such as investing in pop related, economical, or military buildings. It takes 3 building slots to being able to construct middle sized ships.

So I actually just end up building 1 or 2 port hubs with stacked boni to construction speed via invention tree (I think it’s one of the civic inventions tree) and trade good surplus, and then just here and there one port to park the fleets. I’m not even building them in every province.

It's what it reads like to you, I described what happened, "they caved on mana and removed it" at no point did I imply that that course of action was a mistake, you've just made an incorrect assumption.
I understand that it is incorrect, I am simply stating the reality that is the way you have written it leads into that kind of assumption. Hence "It reads like". I did not imply your intention even once.

Definitely. 2.0 was, as far as I can remember, the best PDX patch ever launched - and the number of bugs/issues were abysmal, especially considering the mere size of the patch. Right now, the team behind I:R has done such an amazing job that I'm pretty sure I'd try any game they develop in the future, regardless of the era it's put in. Snow Crystal's *snarkiness* is just the cherry on top of it all.

1) Iron Century ;)
2) CKII feels more feature complete than CKIII, not to mention Im a complete Roman nutcase and like the Imperial elections that were implemented in HF. No Roman flavour is a key issue for me in CKIII.
3) I don’t like the UI and the gloom, unlike the cheery parchments that I received detailing my removal of the enunch trait. If I wanted gloom, I would just read a newspaper irl.
4) I don’t get why a game so recent done with Holy Fury gets a sequel but us poor fans still have to wait for Victoria III, spare us :(
5) When I watched the livestreams etc, CKIII felt incredibly easy. There was no pushback from the AI etc, no real challenge once u got abit of money. Whilst this is also true in CKII I don’t think it’s to the same extent.

I do think by the end of the games cycle, CKIII will be better, the game has got an incredibly good base to start with. But as of now I think I have nostalgia for the potato characters in CKII. :)
Why is that?
Not Lambert, but Imperator atm doesn’t distinguish between ports with a natural Harbour and those who do not: the ability to build ports in every territory seems abit off as a result.

This would work very well with a trade update to the game, just to throw it out there *nudge nudge wink wink*

The ports issue:

Perhaps instead of ports you have ‘landings/jetties’; they cannot train ships but slightly increase migration speed and navies can stop and heal, as well as embarking and disembarking troops quickly.

Essentially they’re for boat repair and moving armies, but not building ships.

I think if you could only build ports in cities that would help the strategic element, as you could argue that the cities would have the infrastructure to build a ship whereas a random port would not.
