Wishlist: more monarch names

If you look in the common/countries files, most of them have well over 20 monarch names... and most of those names have a chance of "0".

This seems like a shame (and an awful waste). Couldn't these all be given a chance of 1, or even (dare I say) 2, so that you might see a little more variety now and again? It's totally fine for most of your monarch names to come from the expected set, but in a game where history can change in all sorts of ways it seems sad that England will never see a King Robert.

One thing that would also be cool, but difficult to implement, would be for some names in personal unions to shift depending on the country's primary culture and history. Traditionally in much of Europe, monarchs do not have a fixed name regardless of language, but rather the name is 'translated' to fit the language, so the same person might be known as Charles, Karl, Carlos, Karel, Carlo and Carolus depending on the language of the source. It seems a bit odd for instance when you have say 'Juan de Trastámara' reigning over Portugal, just because it's the junior partner in a PU led by Spain. In real life he would have been known as 'João' in Portugal, and probably 'John' in English sources.

I have seen rare names for monarchs in several of my games.

In my game as England/UK, I've had an Adolphus and Octavious.

In my game as France, I've had Xavier, Nicholas-Henri, Jean, and Joachim.

As Portugal, I've had an Antonio and Henrique.

But those were basically the rarest ones I've had. All of them were "insert name here" I. Pretty much the firsts, and sadly it doesn't continue.

I honestly sometimes don't even look at their names, unless I'm actively trying to form a PU or something I might. For example, after Montezuma (or however it is spelled) I couldn't tell you 1 ruler I had in my aztec campaign, heck I couldn't even tell you a single ruler I had in my current brunei campaign. I'll play ck2 if I want to worry with that, but I suppose I'm not against adding flavor.

I think they just imported the files from EU3 and forgot about it. I will ALL nations have a chance (small 1%) of ending up with a Queen or Empress. As it is now IF your nation had one IRL you get the chance otherwise forget it. France getting a Queen and a Pragmatic Sanction DHE would be cool....... This is a Sandbox and it doesn't really change gameplay much, but would help the narrative of the faux histories we love to tell others.

More names allowed at least all the ones currently in the files would be nice.

I think one thing that should be fixed would be France's obsession with the name "Louis". I've seen a Louis XXVII once, and guess what his heir's name was? LOUIS!

Nations that had queens/empresses in RL (Spain, Britain, etc.) have ~15% of chance of getting a female heir.

The French start the game fighting (and barring player intervention, winning) a war based on the principle that the throne of France can not go to a woman or be inherited through female line. They maintained this principle historically even when it meant passing the throne to a Protestant who's lineage had broken off 300 years before. For France to switch at a later point in-game would be straining belief far too much.

I would like that to, and some random generated surnames too. Ok this is not CK II, but I like those names. Does anyone know if later rulers of the timeframe of EUIV had some cool surnames?

When i was getting into modding, i actualy fixed a lot of ahistorical, and added a lot of other monarch names for a like 7-8 countries. I love to see King Eddard, or Tyrion in England

Monarch names are like number #997 on my wishlist. I think there are other areas that deserve more attention.

Also, who the hell cares if it's a man or woman on the throne? It's just a name with 3 stats, it doesn't have a face or personality. I was hoping there would be less whining about gender in EUIV.

Many, but very few of those just involve doing a find-replace on numbers in a file. The names are already in the files now.

Name diversity feels a bit unnecessary if it isn't a completely new dynasty or if you personally differ from the historical hierarchical structure of the state. If we look at Sweden for example, few were named anything but Karl, Gustav, Erik or what have you. I think it's fine the way it is with the name generating, but I would like it to drastically change dynamically if a new dynasty with name preferences (let's say that Valois gets the throne of Sweden) takes hold of the nation, or if a pretender rises and installs a new dynasty on the throne. Republics should get a diverse name catalogue for the sake of representing the common people during the time frame.
