In principle, I agree with Martial-law, but without the pictures, Victori wouldn´t be so pretty. Besides, you can probably imagine some of the people as presidents (bearing an uncannily resemblance to the monarchs), the only exception beeing the Chinese Feller, Queen Vic and Wilhelm II

This may have been suggested a dozen times over, but the AI should be fixed so it knows how to fight a colonial war. You can just steal claims all day long. Sure, I can not declare the colonial war, but it would be good if the AI could respond, try to steal my claims, and try to recapture its own.

ok some minor details i noticed

i hope it is legitimate to mention them here:

a.
in siam malaysian/sunni pops are split up all over the country, they should only exist in the southernmost province of siam.

b.
madagascars state religion should actually be paganism
the country was ruled by queen ranavalona until 1861 and all western influence especially western religions were banned
(i wonder if i could change that myself in the database)
is there a state religion of paganism ?
of course the pops should be pagans too

Yes it's easily changed. :)
If you want to change it yourself just replace this line:
Code:
	religion = catholic
with:
Code:
	religion = pagan

In any case, I think it can be prudent to bring attention to this notice in the bug-reporting forum:
Derek Pullem said:
This is a summary of the situation with regards to POP changes. It has been ok'd by Paradox.

Paradox are committed to improving Victoria and welcome comments on population distributions within the game. However, in a game as complex as Victoria and with so many conflicting sources and opinions over the population and culture of most of the provinces shown on the map, it is unrealistic to expect a detailed response / reply to each query.

Where an error or ommission has a significant impact on the game, in Paradox's opinion, POP changes will be made as a part of the normal patch process. Examples of this would be a total population twice as large as it should have been in real life or 2,000,000 aristocrats in a single province.

Smaller errors, for example incorrect state religions or obviously incorrect distributions (e.g. no catholics in Switzerland) may get fixed as time permits.

Errors that have little or no impact on gameplay e.g. the absence of a 5% minority or a 20% swing in the split between one minority and another are best left to user generated mods in the VIP forum. Paradox have a history of adopting player mods into the game (e.g. Mad King James' Flag Mod) and should a consensus be reached around a "better" POP mod or group of mods then this may be considered for inclusion in the official game.

It is hoped that everyone will understand the reasons for this policy. Paradox can add more value to the Victoria experience by concentrating on tangible improvements in gameplay rather than indulging in lengthy, albeit interesting, discussions on populations and ethnicity.

Hope this clears up any misunderstandings
As an addendum and IMHO, I'd say that even if you spot grave mistakes in the POP distributions, if you want to have someone look further at it, it helps (very much) to back it up with credible sources. If they're easily consulted (e.g. online), that doesn't hurt either.

how about a generic civil war ("nation falling apart") event?

It may be pretty late in the game for inclusion in 1.04, but I think one addition that could really enhance Victoria would be the addition of a generic "civil war" event, a la the hardcoded event in EU2 that occurs when a nation has low stability, high BB, and low centralization. Here is the link to the thread on the topic that I began in the main forum, in which others more schooled in Victoria events scripting than I proposed some solutions, including this one from Tyrel68:

"Due to the fact that this is hardcoded, I cannot overhaul the system but the way I think it may happen is as follows:

1) Johan makes military defection to the REB more likely during a revolution
2) Johan fixes the pending revolution trigger so that I can make a civil war event which divides the country."

So please consider this a prayer of supplication to the Thunder God. And yes, I am prostrating myself.

Kind regards!

I'm just posting this from another post I made where we were discussing this stuff, because I need to run to work soon :)

If I had my mind to alter the game file, separatism would increase the militancy in provinces that are possible revolters. So if you're playing luxembourg, separatism being on wouldn't really affect you, whereas Russia or the USA, separatism would be a big problem as all the possible revolter nations that are a part of you would become more militaristic and conscious, but only inside of those provinces that *could* revolt.

Revanchism would make an AI go nuts increasing their military to try to gain all of their national provinces. Only when they've accomplished this would it go away. Taking a core province with a majority population of that country's accepted cultures would possibly trigger revanchism. The more you take, the bigger the possibility.

National trauma would have a possibility of being triggered after a humiliation or bankruptcy. When a national trauma is triggered, there would be huge increases in militancy and it would basically be one step towards a civil war. Pops would become much more fiercly militant if their needs were not being met or if their primary or secondary interests were not those of the ruling party. It would wear off after a time, but this is akin to the sort of thing the USA went through during the Great Depression, Germany went through after WWI and France after the Algerian War.

I just mention these three values because they're already coded in to an extent, or at least were planned to be used, and since Victoria is being altered for the next patch, maybe we can still try to get some of this stuff into the next patch over the next month or more that they're planning to work on it, because sadly there's no way to code events like that without them being absurdly complicated, with dozens of events for each country and revolter nation, which frankly doesn't seem worth the effort for the effect.

Hence, my basic request is for a use to be applied to the separatrism, revanchism and national trauma tags, as well as for the possibility of triggers based on whether these are activated or not. I gave some examples of ways the tags could be used, but maybe Paradox always had something planned which is even better....

Also I'd like to request that when a nation switches their AI, the last AI they were using remains on file under a new tag like LASTAI or something. Especially with VIP as well as advanced country event coding that gives very different options for countries to take, sometimes those paths don't end up too well. It'd be nice for there to be generic events that switch a country back to their last AI if they have certain revolts or revolutions. For instance, if revanchism was added, and a country had a very military-minded AI for a while, when they eventually lose revanchism, it shouldn't just be to a generic AI they switch back to, but their old one, whatever it would have been. If you could just have an action that would switch the current AI back to whichever one was last used, it would help a lot of possible events.

Trancontinental Railroad

In Vicky, we have two of the wonders of the Industrial Revolution covered, the Suez and Panama Canal. Why not have the first 'Wonder of the Age' as it was called at the time? I am speaking of the American Transcontinental railroad. In reality, the US gained a great deal of prestige for this accomplishment. I suppose that the Trans-Siberian Railroad should be covered as well.

Not likely - there are only so many tags and they are already all in use other than the 20 Uxx tags, which VIP has been using. There is a very small chance that more personal-use tags might be added in 1.04 but it is very unlikely that will happen.

Yes, that would be the kind of event that modders could create.

Patches focus on problems with bugs and problems with the internal mechanics of the game that modders would not be able to fix on their own. So anything that a modder can do is very unlikely to be included in a patch unless it significantly improves gameplay balance or performance. If it is a cosmetic change like an event for Transcontinental, that is something the individual who owns the game can easily create for themselves.

Well the solution to that is scripting events to fit those circumstances, which would be something more in the realm of the modders than of a patch. The old AIs do not just "disappear", there is simply a lack of events to make the AI switch to an older AI again.

It would be nice if paradox posts the release candidates for the 1.04 patch. Similar to the CK process more people could test the candidate for problems etc. In my opionion this would minimize the risk that the official patch will have serious flaws (no offense to the beta team :) ).

Just my opionion and the experience of the hotfixes for HOI2 and CK patches.

Nonetheless I appreciate the efforts paradox puts into the patching of its games.

a) I would like to be able to deploy more than one unit at once, without having to use the "deploy all to home" button. Isn't it possible to have a little checkbox next to the unit in the deployment screen and a button to deploy all checked units to a particular province? I hate having to deploy 200 divisions by hand :). Or am I missing something?

b) Also, wouldn't it similarly be possible to have a checkbox+button next to each pop i the population screen, so that one can convert more than one pop at once?

c) I second or third the "destroy factory" button.

...and yes, I like to play as china :).

I don't know if this has come up before, but:

It´d be great if we could demand states instead of provinces in peace treaties. It's just annoying to look trough 10 provinces from a list with 150 and then have the AI just say no, and I prefer to get whole states instead of random provinces.
