Hey Jorath, you are misinterpreting some of the posts in this thread. For example, when did I say Steam was bad? I didn't. I said there is no benefit for multiplayer because someone earlier in the thread thought multiplayer was actually handled by Steam.

It is great that Paradox games gain more exposure on Steam, but for those who research their option, I can say after the update problems EU III had on Steam, Gamers Gate is the better option for digital download, but by no means do I think it is bad that Steam now distributes Paradox games.

In the end, I just want the most substance in my actual game play experience instead of substance in the way of dated forms of physical media with a manual outdated as quick as the first update. The best way to insure that substance is to reward the developer with money for their troubles, and Gamers Gate insures they see the profit they deserve.

You indeed may be correct, I feel that Paradox shouldn't shoehorn their distribution method of what is looking to be a fine game into only one avenue. They should explore as many options that are available to them throughout the world.

I'm definitely hoping for a DVD version, I like having something physical. On the topic of a map included in a special edition, one big enough to cover a wall would be awesome, as big as feasible. Even if it only showed regions or countries, it would be incredible. I think I need to start clearing some wallspace :D

PI, Please NEVER EVER use STEAM or require us to have STEAM to log on to our games or use them. I recently refused to purchase Empire Total War because of the STEAM requirement, even though I wanted that game quite a bit.

I will be happy to purchase a boxed copy from a retail outlet.

Also, I have in the past ordered from GamersGate and from Download 2 Disk and had no problem with those providers; they don't require you to have anything loaded in memory or to log in online to play the games.

while i see no real downside to paradox distributing stuff on steam for people who want to buy it that way, i'll second any wish for the game not to require random crap that has nothing to do with the actual GAME to be put on my computer.

DRM software in general is Evil. not to mention generally futile.

I've got no problem with needing to register with a CD key or whatever for patches and so on, but... yeah. heck, Personally i don't even mind having to have the disk in the drive to run games. [only disk I've ever had fail was, as i mentioned earlier, the doomsday one. when reinstalling the game]

anything like the crap spore has attached to it? not buying the game.

digital downloads of full games? they're big. use too much cap. very good odds I'll never buy it.

until now this has not been something I've had to worry about with paradox, that i'm aware of. i do hope that continues to be the case.

with the exception of Mass Effect's sequels[specifically, only, and for very unique reasons] I've entirely sworn off EA's games, in any form on any platform, due to what they're doing with the DRM stuff. it's actually something i make a point of checking on Any computer game i consider buying now.

i have no ending to this post, so it stops here.

Digital Rights Management

Copy protection, limited installs, on-line authorization, all of those things developers use to try and stop piracy and copy right infringement. Some are more onerous and invasive than others.

noticeably, most do little to actually help deal with piracy, and a lot to screw the consumer. thus the hate.

[the spore DRM apparently installs itself into windows with a higher level of authority than the user, for example. that's Not A Good Thing]

technically just needing, for example, the CD in the drive is DRM. as is the whole 'register if you want patches'. they just happen to be the less evil sort. the first is just a hold over from when it was necessary to have the CD in due to the amount of data involved, and it just stuck as convenient. the second is just, you know, actually a good idea.

but yeah, wandering off topic a bit there, wasn't i? heh. sorry about that.
downside to releasing stuff near Christmas, at least around here, is the massively increased odds of it getting hung up in the censors office. this makes getting things 'on release day' a bit interesting, near the end of the year, here abouts. that's never worried me terribly anyway.

i'm trying to think if there's anything truly Iconic to the HoI series that isn't just generic ww2 stuff that could be modeled... i fail horribly. oh well.
