Messing around in my game I made a resort planet and I was.. underwhelmed. I mean it does as per designed but the actual planet itself and maintaining it is boring. You might as well just do instant population control and forget the planet exists.

I was hoping that it had some unique districts maybe or buildings maybe. Or at least themed for the resort part. Just the fact that as a planet it operates normally except no districts and 1 clerk job per 2 pop. I like the concept of a resort planet (specially with Megacorps can literally create Disney World haha ) but I'd like the execution to maybe match in this regards and be a bit more interesting in interaction or maybe events (at least I havn't had any for it if any exist).

Thoughts from anyone?

Put it on a size 15 planet and forget about it. The added immigration pull and bonus amenities is kind of nice.

Also as a warning to everyone, using Mastery of Nature doesn't do anything for a resort world, unless you pay to remove the resort world modifier.

I mean that's kind of my point though in terms of, sure it works but boy it's just.. boring of a planet. I wish there was just more you could do with the planet in terms of interactions/RP elements not necessarily like more resources or something.

Like maybe instead of immediately getting your empire wide bonus you have to build up to it and develop your resort program so to say.

Oh that's hilarious.

I don't know what amuses me more, the thought that everyone but spiritualists would be happy about that tomb world being turned into Disneyland, or that the resort world bonus might cancel out a good part of the spiritualists' convictions via clever PR.

But yeah, there should be more caveats attached to what can be turned into a resort world and what can be done with one once you have it.

Hahaha, I can see the advertisement for that resort World: "Welcome to our new Disney Gulag! You will not enjoy your stay, but you will appreciate your normal, dreary life all the more after this fantastic tour!" :p

I wish they removed the flat crime/happiness bonus, removed the arbitrary 15 size limit, and made you actually have to develop the world. Preferably with unique buildings like thrall worlds currently have. It shouldn't be as simple as colonizing and empty rock and going "I DECLARE THIS PLANET A RESORT/PENAL WORLD!"

Buildings that increase habitability (after removing the dumb free 100% you get) and increase immigration would be a good start. If they remove the 15 planet size limit, this also opens up the option of using habitats. I'd love to have the option to make my own "The Kyln" space prison, or Floston Paradise.

Yeah, back when Horizon Signal gave you worlds with zero districts, the mid-sized ones were quite well suited to becoming resort worlds, which I found amusing. :)

Some events and special buildings related to those worlds would do a lot.
For the penal world it could have ways to backfire(planet becomes the criminal hive of your empire and just spreads it outward) or go beyond expectations(resounding success that turns it from a dump into a model colony of reformed citizens)

Resort worlds could be a place to get boosts for unity, influence, and society research but would have the downside of giving malus or angering certain strata of society should things not be very nice.

Penal colonies could have specialized armies, unique research buildings(who better to test out new weapons on?).
Resort worlds can have Pleasure domes, executive retreats and amusement parks.

I could see resort worlds having events that could mirror west world. (Robot servitors revolting?). Perhaps even some + diplomacy options because you hosted a delegation there.
Penal colonies could have revolts, and various opportunities to make use of involuntary labor. (Like selling more troublesome inmates as food to a neighboring empire)

Would also be nice to have variants.
Spiritualists getting a Shrine World version of the Resort World, filled with tombs of martyrs, temple complexes, and relics. All designed to please the faithful missionaries who come to visit.

I'm surprised the special decision specializations work the way they do, with nothing but a flat bonus. The game already has a system for giving a bonus based on quality of consecrated worlds. Surely a similar system could be used for resort/penal worlds? For instance, resort worlds could be rated by habitability (with no natural +100% bonus and special buildings, as someone else suggested) and excess amenities, while penal worlds are rated by number of pops.

This means we could also be given the option to make multiple resort/penal worlds, if the devs want. With diminishing returns, of course.

That is an interesting idea. Resort Worlds could have a positive effect on specialists and leaders, but a negative effect on workers and slaves (who are less likely to be able to afford a trip there). Different ideologies could give different bonuses - higher bonus for materialist and lesser for spiritual (who often shun worldly pleasures), lesser risk for discontent from paradise in egalitarian societies (because wealth spread is less of an issue in those) etc.

Special Buildings could counter this - like, a "motell" that lessens the negative impact on workers (by adding cheap motels) or a sacred site buildig that increases the effect for spirituals.
Or edicts like "Subsidised tourism" where by spending some energy you get a bonus effect from workers. :)

I'm thinking about making a mod which will rework the resort worlds effect. Instead of boosting amenities production on the other planets resort world will give a happiness bonus to them dependent on the amenities production on the resort world. The main idea is to make the development of the resort world actually usefull as well as oriented towards producing amenities. So that we got them with lots of paradise domes and Hyper-Entertainment Forums and not with fortresses.

Removing the size limit seems to be a reasonable idea as well. And habitats may be allowed to build leasure districts.

For spiritualists it could be a pilgrimage world. With events related to maintaining holy sites, protecting pilgrims, and performing rituals. These events would be somewhat costly if you choose them but provide benefits to stability, unity, influence, and society. Not putting resources and effort into the sites would cause your government to be viewed as less legitimate by your spiritualist pops.
For materialist the resort world could be the culmination of all the work they put into developing and researching terraforming technology as they shape a world to be their ideal paradise.
