I wonder when will Paradox start working on HoI3. I hope they already did it :)

Let's help them a bit! Give them ideas for the upcoming bestseller :)

So here's some:

-Much more "what if?" event!

-Expandable resource sources. I mean like building facotries. Spend 5 or 10 IC on building a mine which improves the excavation by about 10%. So it could be profitable for the already rich in resources province and where isn't any important amount of minerals there isnt worth it. for example: 100 oil > 10 over 1 year > 120 oil. and 5 rare > 10 ic over 1 year > 6 rare.

-Random resource deposit discoveries event based on real geographical data.

-Random leaders with pictures (like in victoria but with black and white photos of less known officers) with skills and feats too. A minor country should have a commanding genius not only the major powers.

-Option to invest in teach teams based on the actual skill. For example with a tech team with skill 3 costs less to make it skill 4 than a skill level 7 team to make it level 8. Also addable tech team feat (like Training, Piloting, etc) for huge amount of money (invest).

-A little bit more complex diplomacy. A lttle bit more complex intelligence system.

Where to begin?

Better AI

1933-1964

More Provinces that are smaller, for instance Amsterdam would be a lot smaller and 3 or 2 provinces could be milked out of that Province.

Hellfishes "Build your own Division Suggestion" with saveable templates and such.

Country Specific Units

Usable better Editor, simple, and cool.

Larger Tech Trees, especially in terms of Doctrines.

Invest Money in Tech Teams

Negotiate Tactics with the AI. For Instance, if the U.S. Player was going to make a landing in Europe, then the U.S. player should be able to open the negotiation screen and ask them for a support landing in one of the new provinces made out of Caen.

Better Diplomacy, Buy and sell Units, like was often done, Recognize Governments, for instance like in China, the U.S. recognized Commie China in 68.

Better Manpower System, I think the current one is weak at best, it needs real Population Numbers, and such. That way Minors with lots of people can make a large Military, but it might be underequipped.

More what if events, and What If? AI's.

The real question is when will there be a HOI3? I think HOI2 did pretty well, and with EU3 out, Paradox needs a new Project. By no means do I "expect" all of these things. Hellfishes system, plus better Diplomacy and more Provinces would suffice. I would love Paradox to do HOI3, and think its the right idea. If they put enough effort into it, they could save their effort on HOI for a while. That is my appeal. Make HOI3, then focus on CK, Victoria, or some new thing all together.

Maybe scoot the time limits back. Maybe for the beginning we could start in 1934 or 1935 and end a little later in 1955 or somewhere like that, so we have more time to conquer the world :D.

More intelligence options. I would like to sabatoge certain facilities like factories themselves, ports, forts, and individual units.

Possibily add some a little control in battles themselves

More events

Actually have like resistance groups trying to kill your leaders instead of making a black streaky mess in a province

More units...I would love to see more tank types and aircraft coming into play

I would like to see a food resource. It could be a great addition for alot of provinces that currently yield nothing. Food as a need to cover both the civilian and military, somewhere between supplies and consumer goods.

There is a small controversy over the building of factories during peacetime. Perhaps we could have a war time bonus as the nations push their industrial capacity beyond its limits to make more units. However as a downside during the wartime push your research teams work slower since you are devoting so much time and money to producing more equipment for the war.

At least with Hungary there are around a hundred more generals (i.e. MG+LtGen+ColGen) that could be included. I'm actually working on that project. It can be modedded into HoI2 already.
Furthermore if you look around the leader files some minors do have level 9 generals! Hungary do not :(

I am all for more "What If" events. Of course, not as free form as EU3, but more events to cover a successful Sealion for example, and maybe a greater chance to end the war if Britain is still "alone" in the war.An early allied victory event etc. and the soviet response.

-But the big area I want to see improvements is in the management of troops. We should have a full screen "army", "navy" and "airforce" screen where you can group up units, designate leaders and so on.

-Ability to chose *multiple* provinces! That way you dont have to click for improvements on every friggin province out there... is one heck of a pain as the USSR.

-Some might hate this, but I would be all for abstracting airpower somehow. If not, at least an "intercept" mission, possibly tied into radar stations should be created, so that interceptors or fighters in range can attack bombers that are entering their range, and are detected. Right now simply using airpower for defense requires too much micromanagement. And no, I am not a fan of setting those fuel hogging things on a permanent mission for years upon years.

-The AI NEEDS some limitations to their naval range. Right now the pacific, Island hopping war is destroyed, since the AI opponent can basically sail right up to the mainland and invade.

I realize the AI has its weaknesses, so thats why I suggest that the AI has unlimited range within certain zones. With the UK gone for example, the US cant launch D-Day on mainland Europe, Japan and the US needs to control certain islands in the pacific before being able to strike deeper and so on.

-Ability to expand resources in a province, tied into random events or a game mechanism. Perhaps even something as simple as expanding infra.

- Revise the economic system, at least differenciate between land, sea and air arms industry.

- Get rid of brigades and introduce a more flexible system of assembling divisions (like 2 inf regiments, 1 arty regiment as core infantry division which can be reinforced by an extra regiment, AC attachments, tank hunters etc.)

- Introduce a more realistic manpower system where conscription - a key element in large-scale warfare - is properly represented. For example, have a part of the manpower converted to reservists depending on slider settings and total army size.

- Ministers should have skill levels, too

Adapt the game engine to 20th century warfare at last!

- Proper combat simulations, it's still handled like in EU1 where 2 armies face each other and exchange shot after shot. Especially true for air combat!

- I'd love to see an abolishment of the old province system. Rather have a (maybe 3d) map where the armies and corps each have their own zone of influence.

All in all I really think the EU1 engine has been pushed to its limits. It's time for something new.

From my post in the other thread yesterday

Priorities for me in a new version would be greater inter-allied co-operation. I play as the UK and would love to ask the US AI to join me in invading Italy, or it asking me to contribute towards d-day. One could even make suggestions to it about what kind of operations it should be carrying out itself. I Would like to have a window where strategic agreements are made. Of course, the AI may reject one's suggestions, as in real life.

Next up, more nation specific techs and characteristics. Hellfish's division building idea would be an integral part of this.

An AI which can carry out an effective invasion. I hate sitting and waiting for ever for the USA to attempt to crack the Atlantic Wall with force. It never does. Instead of two or three divisions landing in France (or anywhere else), wouldn't it be nice to see 50?

There's much more, but these three are really my personal preferences, particularly the first.

Well, I think that the trade system should be changed so that you would have to set up trade routes, over land or se, this would make submarines much more powerful and also ive Germany a reason to annex Norway.

1. More diplomacy,
2. More options when conquering and releasing countries (ability to include or exclude provinces when liberating, to annex regions in adition to countries. More options to rearrange the world),
3. Joint annexation (not sure if this is already implemented though),
4. Conferences (someone stated this above, I'd expand on it - coordinated alliance-level war efforts - mutual deal on what to concentrate on with a specific foe, how to conduct war in a specific theater...)
5. More options for partisans (like sabotaging infrastructure, factories, defences, even present divisions, in addition to just taking the province)
6. Some kind of organic structure (army groups?) for the divisions, organic armed forces in overall,
7. More meddling into other countries' politics
8. Less time to wait for it! :D

I really dislike the limit on the number of techs that can be researched simultaneously, this should be more to do with economic factors and sliders like in HOI 1 than with a total max of 5. However I think within that research years ahead of actual development should be penalised as it is in HOI2.

Yeah, it should be done so you get 1/2 teams as a base, and another 1 for every 20 IC you have (before modifiers)

Yeah, maybe something such as negative gearing (i think it's gearing) during peace time, so the more divisions you build, the more it costs and the longer it takes. This could be reduced if it was obvious that you were going to war (maybe if a country that has a high hatred relationship with you (-200) has a high beligerance).

Also if there was a better pact/alliance system, so a country can be a member of several pacts/alliances. E.g. Britain in NATO, UN, EU....and during WW2/cold war, warsaw pact; Allies (Comintern and allies); Say if France agrees that it will not attack germany (and Vice versa), and then GB declares war, then francewill get a choice to declare, or hold up to it's pact with germany (possibly siding with axis against Allies).

My wish list

Right:

Spies:
should be units travelling through provinces and spying on unit movements. Also, I am not sure why I can see where my enemies IC is located at the start of the game, 2 things there. You set up where you want your ICs and their spies have to find and then target it. meaning it is more interactive as it is far too easy at the moment to launch a missile strike at Detroit knowing I have hit their factories. Sure, oil and metal cannot move. More than 10 spies as well why not hundreds to use as rebels to take over a province fermenting rebelion. So spies have a uniform underneath, a military and civilian use for them.

Atom bombs:
Should be used to force a country to cede to your hegemonistic demands (etc). For example, demand passge through a country (I am thinking Turkey here against the Soviets).

Allies:
Why not control your allies building and research ic. For example, for some reason Vichy seem to kindly only build mountaneers and Hungary only build stat bombers. I would prefer to control their spends too to ensure they only build what I want and not what they want to build.

I have been playing this game from the start and in NO WAY can I find anythink negative about this game. It is a true joy. I just wish I had the time to get into the coding side for a truely immersive experience.

Before that Avalon Hill's board games, before that metal tanks in the garden, and before that match and cigarette boxes in the bedroom.

An aside while playing: Why is R. Hess still in Germany after 41? Thought he did a bunk to Scotland in a ME100?
