I have been playing in the War of Spanish Succession but there is not a time that I am not beaten the SHxx of me. And I hate to see Austria submit and gives up Hungary.

SO is there a way to win or to have a draw?

P.S. The game seriously needs to have mechanism for encouraging war fighting on multiple fronts in different provinces and punishes stacking up. And do not make every war a total war....

Do you mean that you started in later bookmark ? I always (for now at least) start in 1444 so I`m not familiar with other bookmarks...

As for other concerns I`m afraid that EUIV is total war oriented unfortunately, and you can have small stacks only after obliterating your opponents...

If you have a leader with decent manouver you can just run around with opponents doomstacks slowly melting due to attrition, That's the only countermeasure to doomstaking I can thing of.

Also if you have stack with the triple size of you combat width (including the backline) you can destroy any doomstack. Split you army into three parts, fight and constantly retreat one of the army to neighbouring provinces. and coming back after it gets enough morale/reinforcements.

That right that can't be quoted enough. Attrition needs to be WAY more harsh and stack very quickly. Armies tended to live off the land, and if there are too many units living off the land, then disease and famine will kill droves of them. Historically attrition killed more men in wars than battles did.

The problem with raising attrition/lowering supply limits is it only increases the amount of micro for the player by forcing you to move around loads of small armies. Sure it may be more realistic but in my opinion excessive micro is never a good thing.

This. The only game where it's fun to micromanage is HOI3... and that is a pain at times.

Not only that. AI has always been bad at managing attrition so, in the end, high attrition penalizes the AI more than the player. And AI already is the weak link of all the games. Lets not do it weaker.

i dont see the issues.

Large-scale warfare is already extremely micro intese for a grand strategy game (and one reason many of us don't bother with WCs--constant carpet siegeing micro that never, ever stops. At least Europeans can abuse the HRE for this), and waging war in the Siberian wastes or other areas with poor supply is tiresome. It's not like it's hard to move troops around in smaller numbers and converge as needed, it just adds a lot of unnecessary micro, and seeing how well the AI deals with attrition in general (that is to say not at all), decreasing supply limits would just cripple it even further. One of the principal reasons Austria's done so poorly against France in the past is the constant moving of large armies across the HRE--the bloody Alps have surely killed more imperial soldiers than the BBB ever have.

How about this, there is an option to disperse into neighbouring provinces when you click the army to move to a province? and also make a group of provinces to be bundled up and there is a limit for the number of troops in that bundle to avoid stretching the limit of each provinces within the group of provinces to avoid doomstack?
